Mono Custom Console...

I just received what i guess is a custom built console from the 50's ???

I pulled The Fisher Series Eighty (80T) out and has all Fisher tubes.
I also pulled out the Scott 232B mono block that has two Tung Sol one Philco
one Sylvania 247B ( US Navy) and one other undetermined tube.

both units are in great shape, The Scott looks almost new.

there is a Thoren TT in the unit that I haven't looked at yet and
two seperate speaker cabinets holding a Bozak B-207A in each

The cabinet is in nice condition with folding doors in front,

would this be of value if I keep it all together???

Maybe, it depends on who made the cabinet. Most of the time the value in a console is in the individual pieces though. Scott and Fisher are two good names to have in that regard.

Thorens isn't exactly a slouch, either.

TD-124 would be a big deal, of course. The arm it's mated to will have a big effect on value as well. Pictures would be great.

You're right but since we're talking about a 50s mono console I figured it was a lower end model. There's no reason it has to be low end though. Since the 80T is set up for various EQ settings and has a phono stage it might have a nice GE RPX/VRII on it. Whoever put it together didn't go bottom shelf.

i didn't think they would let a newbie post pix right away, but you are right.

These are of the Thorens TT, the tuner-preamp and power amp are at
home. The console is tucked away at work since it is almost 9 feet long
and the wife doesn't know about it....yet

The wood work is a lot of tounge and groove, looks nice...those pix will be next

Looks like a Thorens CD-43, unfortunately not one of the desirable ones.

edit: I guess I should have looked closer at the first picture...

Its strange that the system would have a pair of speakers. I wonder if they were from a stereo set up? Neat find, I would have hauled it home but the 9ft console would have ended up at good will.

Two speakers

the system was actually set up for three,,, I pulled the speaker selector
out and you could either listen to speaker 1 or just speaker 2 or speaker 3
or all three. The control is wired for only one 8 or 16 ohm contact along with
the common so it does look like it was meant for mono.... a weird set up indeed....I have no idea where the third speaker is......

I am going to set it back up this weekend to hear how it sounds...

Who knows, i might find another Scott and convert it to a stereo....

ok that explains it. It was common to have speakers in other rooms. Probably originally set up to have a speaker in the living room, game/bar room and one outside. This way he could switch the music to were the party was. The other speaker may have been in a wall. I would for sure look for another scott and use the speakers in a stereo setup.
