Moon 310LP and Grado Master 3 Low-output

Hi

I am considering the Grado Master 3 Low-output for my VPI Signature. It will run through my Moon 310LP preamplifier.

Do you think it is a good combo…?

In the 310LP manual, it says, "It is strongly recommended that you never use

the 47kΩ resistive load setting for moving coil... Why...?

I know the Grado Master is a moving magnet, but will it be problem…?

No problem for the Grado Master3, which you know is a Moving Iron. Those should work very well together - the Grado and Sim.
Your Sim pre offers lots of gain so the low output Grado Master3 with 1.0mV is the one you’ll want. The Sim phono pre also has the 47kΩ input setting the Grado is specifying.. Should make a nice combination. :)

What worries me is that in the maulale for Moon310LP it says:
"It is strongly recommended that you never use the 47kΩ resistive load setting for moving coil..."

But as I know it's a moving iron, so I'm pretty sure I won't destroy the Moon310LP or The Grado master 3.
 
It won't destroy anything. The low output Grados need higher impedance than MCs because of their way higher inductance. A low output Grado would sound very muffled lacking highs with a typical 100 ohm MC input.

I dunno why they 'strongly recommend' in the phono stage manual to not use 47k with MC carts, probably just a sound quality consideration. But it should be fine with the Grado.

Grado sound fine with most loadings as they are not susceptible to loading. I have tried them at 100 ohms all the way to 47k.
