My wife is fond of this one. She played it in my presence recently - possibly even for my benefit - but somehow I managed to avoid hearing it at all. I just don't listen to current music. The car radio is permanently tuned to the classical channel, but even contemporary classical stuff has me reaching for the "OFF" button.
 
Sometimes I wonder if some of these radio stations even realize that Radiohead has a catalog spanning over 20+ years, and that they didn't just release "Creep" and call it a day.

Pretty much the same goes for "Wonderwall" by Oasis and "Song 2" by Blur.

Oasis recorded exactly one song worth listening to, and I haven't heard it on the radio in a long time.
 
I am blissfully seldom required in the presence of anything playing popular music, so haven't the foggiest.

Were The Beatles so overplayed in the late sixties that Classic Rock formats generally omit them, and so could be better described as Classic Rock (Except The Beatles) formats? That's my theory, anyway.
 
The current overplayed song is "Starboy" by The Weeknd. I know because I have high school kids. Aside from the explicit lyrics (M-effer and "N"), this is radio-friendly pablum. C'mon, I'm middle-aged. Shock me or rock me, but please don't bore me.

Oh yeah, I've heard plenty that totally annoy me. And might even say so here and there even on AK. I just find the "tell us what music you hate" or "who sucks" or "artists I don't get" threads just serve to alienate people because almost anything you throw out there somebody is going to like (probably several somebodies) so en entire thread of it serves to alienate a lot of people without serving any other useful purpose. And your last line was uncalled for.
 
I think some missed that Sandy is referring to *current* songs that will be overplayed over the course of the next 30 years.

The answer is: that's really hard to say. Stuff endures for a lot of different reasons, and most of them defy predictions.

Remember: Stairway to Heaven never even made the Billboard Top Ten list and wasn't all that popular when it first came out.

Stairway to Heaven and the many well known others were probably overplayed from day one up to present day.
Is there even one song since 2000 that's been overplayed a tenth as much?
 
That "Set Fire to the rain " song by Adele. Not sure if it gets overplayed or not as we don't have a pop radio station here, but if they do play it over a few times a week that could grate. .
