Watching the making of a vinyl record shows how many opportunities there are to introduce errors in the many processes. It also shows the labor involved. But it also skims the highlights and doesn't go into the details that include the mastering process and getting the best sound on the master, the limited number of pressings allowed on the mothers, the type of vinyl, etc. Its a hardly a wonder the recording industry welcomed the CD as the "perfect" solution as a means to reduce much of the backroom process.
