More love for the Sansui Eight Deluxe.

pretty rare. still surprised it fetched what it did.
I picked up an Eight from a guy who was selling records. He had no use for it, took $10. It is in excellent shape, all the stickers on the buttons, wood case has no nicks or blems, and sounds at least as good as the 9090.
Still thought it was pretty much an under appreciated unit until I saw this.

$10 is a steal. Does your Eight have a relay?
 
I paid $5 for an Eight Deluxe from a friend who was closing his repair shop. I don't think there was anything wrong with it.
 
I bought one of these early on, not long after I started collecting vintage gear. After a while I stuck it in with some stuff in the storage room, and...

... forgot all about it! :nono: I re-discovered it when going through and cleaning/clearing stuff for sale. I'm glad this thread came up; if I decide to part with it, now I'll know to ask a lot more for it than I otherwise might have! :D

It's a nice receiver. Glad to see that people are starting to appreciate these under-the-radar units.

It does have the "click" a few seconds after powering up, so I guess it does. It is a garage stereo now, with a pair of BA 200's. I picked up the speakers from a guy who had them re-foamed by BA, for $50. They look very nice and sound better. They were on CL for 3 days before I saw them, couldn't believe they were still available here in this vintage hungry area. So I'm lucky on this one.

The relay equipped Eights are better sounding than the early non-relay equipped Eights. I've had three non and one with.
 
Right on, good to see the Single-Digit series get some respect. :thmbsp: I'm still lovin' my 7000, the oddball hot rod of the bunch. :smoke: I run the audio from my PC into it, for gaming & watching TV or movies.
 
After buying a 4000 for a family member, I got totally Sansui hooked - then started to research what Sansui fans liked. I read a ton of threads even in German, and when it came to best sound, or in German "klang" the Eight/Eight deluxe often came up as a contender along the usual and more available suspects 9090DB/8080DB, and for integrated AU-x17, AU-x500.

I will probably try them all - but decided to begin with the Eight (couldn't find a deluxe at the time) - Got a pristine model with the relay, did some de-oxing and was absolutely blown away by the huge punchy detailed sound. The Eight absolutely pissed on my Marantz 2285B. Next is to have it recapped!

To me it almost a fairytale that somebody would sell an eight for $10!!!! - especially compared to what Marantz's are going for.
