Most Beloved Receiver

When I was young a very drunk rich guy hit my car in a parking lot smashed the fender in.The man offered me $1,000 so I wouldn't call the cops. The next day I went out and bought a Sansui 7070 a pair of JBL L-36's and a Dual with a V-15 after I pounded the fender out of course. Ended up losing it when I got divorced.I still miss that system.

While not a big receiver fan I have a soft spot for the Marantz 18 and 19 and McIntosh 1700. None of which I currently own. Of these the emotion grabber goes to the 18 without hesitation but I think if I only it may be the choice.

Recently the Sony STR6060FW replaced the Sony STR6065 as the 1 receiver I could live with as a main listening receiver. I find the 6060 to be 1 of the better sounding receivers I've ever had my hands on but not sure I have the emotional attachment as I am skeptical it will live as long as I. There is the STR6120 that I have but not heard and also a Fisher 600 hybrid that has een sitting and not yet auditioned. The Fisher I have a fondness for from a looks and construction point; just looking at the cast faceplate and backplate and chassis and wiring to see what great engineering and production design Fisher had. IMHO this SS period for Fisher could be the best construction of any US company except for maybe E.H. Scott. Think of the emotion emitted by a Jag 420G just sitting there. It looks like a cat that is posed to pounce. Even the later XK IIIs as good as they were in looks, almost look passive in comparison. I suspect the Fisher will become the emotional receiver for me even if the top contenders for ultimate sound are the 6060 and/or 6120.

Sansui G-5500. It was the first really nice vintage receiver I bought after getting into this hobby, for $20 (in MINT condition) at a Salvation Army. To me it looked like the epitome of the shiny components I lusted after and couldn't afford in my teens. I ultimately sold it a few years later out of restlessness and a desire to try out separates, and my current setup sounds better, but I regret letting it go. One of these days I'm going to have to get another.

thanks for that sony model#.I have the chance to buy a sony 5800?55wpc right now for $100.its been recently sreviced.i also forgot to list my marantz 1550.not real high on marantz lovers list but i like the sound out of this baby
Hey my friend. I know this is an extremely old thread, but just wanted to tip my hat to your gear. Right in the center of your list is my Holy Grail receiver. The SX-1980 I have never even saw one in person. I have listened to the 1250 and it was quite nice. I have the 850 now. Also a nice Pilot Radio SA-232 amp and SP-210 preamp, but one day I’ll get my 1980.
Cheers my friend

Mine of what I own is my Sansui 4000. I love the early Sony receivers, especially that STR 6120, and love the McIntosh MAC 1700 and the MAC 1900 and MAC 4100. Sansui's 5000 is another favorite, I really do not care for the newer than 1973 Sansuis, they got overdesigned, and sound quality less sweet than the older models. The Marantz Model 18 is a favorite of mine (but that FM tuner is not up to rural/distant reception needs).

I think Pioneer SX 2 through 7 are some of the best looking receivers ever made. Marantz, Kenwood and Sansui also made some very nice receivers.
But....internally and externally the old school design vibes of a Mac 1900 are hard to beat.
Plus a sound that can keep a large pot of chili warm.

This is easy, i got my Marantz 2245 in 1975 and it been my audio companion ever since and still going strong. other than dirty pots and burned out bulbs it's never had an issue. Sweet sound good looks absolutely my favorite. i LOVE my 2245 and you will need to pry it from my cold dead hands. :bigok:

Sansui G-8000 if only for it's shear presence when powered on and the effortless way it drives any speaker. Honorable mention to the JVC JR-S201 as my first receiver to which I spent hundreds if not thousands of hours listening paired with a set of trusty HPM-40s.

I had a Pioneer SX-939 for 30 years. Loved it. I bought it off base when I was stationed at Kadena AB, Okinawa in 1975. Paired up with a Dual 701 turntable, a Teac 2340 Reel to Reel tape deck and Bose 901 speakers. I was happier than a pig in poopie.

SX-434 I got new in '75 while in Uncle Sams Canoe Club. And the Koss Pro-4A's I got in Jr. High in '69. Never failed me, I rebuilt the SX-434 about 5 years ago prophyllactically. My grandkids fight over it, but neither will get it. One will get my SX-737 and the other the SX-939. The SX-434 stays with me, period.

That post was many moons ago and all those are long gone. Some good times in the beginning here.

I cut grass for this ZENITH DIGILITE. This kid thought the lights were so cool. Still sounds like it did five decades ago. Glad I didn't tear it up. You never forget your first.

I have used a Yamaha RX-1100u for my desk top system for years even though I have acquired quite a few nice receivers.
I hope to listen to all of them including a Sansui 9090db, Pioneer SX-939, my first receiver the Pioneer SX-828 and a couple more.
Right now I'm enjoying a very good sounding Fisher RS-1058, warm, open and clear.
