Moth Audio

Color Me Gone
Hey guys, I know a couple of you have buzzed me about whats going on with Moth Audio. There webpage having a "On Spring Break" message for months. I looked into the matter and tried to Email Craig but never received a reply. Today I visited the site and found some new information. At least there was mention of "sales". Was that in reference to speakers, amps or both? I don't know.

I do hope that Moth Audio is indeed up and running again - this is one high-end audio company that truly deserves to live long and prosper...

Interesting speaker.......I noticed a long time ago that some of the better sounding tweeters (at least for car audio) were in fact whizzer cones. Cheap as well as good sound....what a combination!

Don't know anything about Moth audio but I find it most unprofessional for a business to "disapper" on their website in the way they apparently have. Regardless of whatever personal or business problems they may be having, their customers (and potential customers) deserve at least an inkling of what's going on with them. At present their website doesn't offer anything other than that speaker....and even then it doesn't get into pricing, how to order, etc.

Did a little research and came up with the site registrant info, note they give a bogus phone number......why would a legit company do such a thing? As I said, I know nothing about them....they may be (or may HAVE been) the best operation ever with the highest quality products in this dimension, but none of this recent news about them bodes well. Here's their real phone number should anyone care to call them 323-467-4300

A shame he is not selling anymore S45 amps!

But fortunately for me, Yamamoto came into my life at the right time. I had been contemplating a Moth S45 amp after listening to MikE's rig on his speakers, and my old 2-way(avatar).

I will have to talk MikE into bringing his Moth S45 amp back when the Edgarhorns are reassembled. I think a shootout with the Yamamoto would be a interesting comparison.

Hmmm...driving from Toronto to Columbus this time of year doesn't sound real appetizing but I SURE would like to add another 45 amp to that shootout...:)

45 shoot-out in Columbus, Ohio

Bill,
That would be a great idea. I sure wish you would try and do that. I know MikE and I would both love to see your amp in person.

Actually I am envious as i just bought mine whereas you built yours from the ground up. And it looks damn beautiful to me!

So try and fit a trip to Ohio in and lets talk 45 SET's and Big Horns!!!

Ron

Moth audio has kind of disappeared. But the man behind the designs has a new model out, MR-245. A 45 SET amp using EML 45's for 4 watt/chnl. Also cost around $6K!!!!

If I want 4 watt output, get a 2A3 or a 300B, IMHO!

New Moth, same as the old Moth... just more $$$

To follow up on Ron's post here is the link to the "new Moth"... http://www.ramlabs-musicreference.com/images/rm245rca.jpg

which has a similiar architecture to the original Moth 2a3Si... http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0600/mothsi2a3.htm

p.s. And for those of you new to AK, the amp pictured in my avatar is one of Craig's last designs, the Moth s45. Additional photos can be seen if you click on the link to my "VTL" system - Enjoy.
