Motorola SK14M 190Watt need help

Hi all,

Looking for some guidance on my Motorola SK14M. It was completely refurbished 7 years ago and last Christmas the turn table started slowing down with more than 3 albums on it. So we switched to just one at time. After a while, that was a no go. Of course, I "planned" on finding a place to bring it... but you know covid...

So, we just used the AUX and listened music through there... then the sound went out.

Recently, I opened up the back and had a look. And no, I have no idea what I was looking at, just hoping something would be obvious. Well, one of the tubes looked dim. I looked up the model, ordered it, replaced it and we were able to hear ONE record and the right speed. And then everything was gone again.

Should I take it in to someone or order a whole new set of tubes?

Don't waste your money on tubes. One being brighter or dimmer than another is just make or brand difference in the way the heater protrudes from the top or bottom of the cathode.

Take it to someone who knows their stuff.

agree, probably not the tubes, or at least likely not more than one. Not much thats common to both channels that would kill the sound completely.

The changer problems sound like old record changer problems. Usually bad idler wheel but may also need some other TLC.

I'm in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Thanks for the reply. I figured that with it sitting for a year it could use a little TLC.
I think there might be a place in Phoenixville Pa,

if you strike out there, you're about an hour from me. I tinker with this stuff as a hobby though so its very dependent on my motivation and the weather. If it gets too cold and nasty, my workshop is difficult to heat so I just don't bother.
