Mouse Droppings!!!

I know why I got such a good deal on my Fisher 400 and why the tuning dial is messed up... A mouse was living in it briefly. He ate the tuning dial string and made a number of "deposits" on the chassis, particularly over the tunning cap box.

I vacuumed up the loose crude and I think I will attack the chassis with Simple green and a very stiff tooth brush. I have nothing to loose now. Any other suggestions to remove this crap, literally? I know any corrision stains are there for life. A lot of this looks superficial..

I had to use diluted clorox bleach to get mouse pee smell out of my R2R ... seems to have worked. IIWY I would use clorox as part of the procedure on the off chance there are any germs involved.

Btw, it looks like a mouse did the same kind of stuff to my 400...

Michael and group, here is what I am dealing with. I am using a slightly diluted mixture of Simple Green and water. I apply it with either a q-tip or a stiff small brush and scrub.
Obviously, the corrosion will not be fixed but its starting to come clean if you look at the area to the left around the empty 12AX7 tube sockets on the top left of Pic #2. This will take a lot of scrubbing. Again, I have nothing to loose except some idle time.

Any polish that you guys can recommend? Can you use something like Fitz or similar?

I have a mouse pee spot on my FM-50-B chassis. I cleaned it first with Simple Green and followed with a good rub with Navel Jelly to remove corrosion. I then used Eagle One Original Never Dull and a Dremmel Tool with a buffing pad to bring back some shine. The Eagle One product was made for polishing automotive chrome, wheels. It works well but requires some rubbing. The area will never look perfect but my FM-50 chassis looks pretty good if you don't look too close.

You're not going to get those rust spots out with Simple Green. I had the same situation with my Altec, it was home for a creature at one time. I had to use Rust Dissolver by Permatec and a toothbrush. If you do use a rust dissolver say goodby to any lettering. I had no choice, my lettering was half gone anyway.

Be happy that it was a mouse. I picked up some super older Sansui equipment G-8000 reciever, 2x spx4000, and 2x spx8000 speakers, the matching tapedeck to boot (What was that?) ... from a cat farm and my wife would'nt let me bring any of it in the house untill the stench was gone. That was something I will never forget!!!!!!! but for 150$ for everything. That was 17 or more years ago. The only piece I still don't have is the Tape deck. The G-8000 and the 8000er's is at my Father-in-laws, The 4000er's at a brother in-laws. And the TD...E-Bay...It was nice but..
