moved up the food chain

having owned lower level Grado phones for some time now, I decided to move up the food chain and purchased a pair of SR225i headphones. To me, the sound was darn close to the 325i model($100 more), and were actually a bit more comfortable on my head. Initial comparison to my SR80's shows a better soundstage and better detail, although, out of the box the 225's have a bit less bass. All reports have bass improving dramatically after 20 hours or so of breakin and I know the 80's did so, so overall, I am pleased. Will report back after a month of listening!:music:

How do you like KG5.5 speakers? How would you compare them to other Klipsch classics?

Are they pretty good models of Klipsch, or entry level?
 
I had a chance to try out my SR60i's side by side with a pair of SR325i's. The differences were vast, but the fundamental house sound was there for sure.

they were the top of the KG series, and might be the best floor standing 2 way speakers I have ever heard. In fact, I auditioned(while buying the Grado phones) a few pairs of speakers that go for up to $4000/pr and they outperformed or equalled every pair I listened to.

I have a the kg 1.5 model I like, but always wanted to try a bigger brother - I love the warm and wide sound stage for symphonic works - sounds like an orchestra is right in your living room...

I have to hunt one down. So you would rate kg models in the league with famous ones like these?

Belle Klipsch, La Scala, Heresy II
Chorus II, Forte II, Quartet
 
I prefer them to the Heresy series, IMHO the Corwalls are a bit better, but different. The Fortes are better, if updated with Crites' stuff, the other two I have never heard. For the money, the KG 5.5 is a very good speaker, you can find pairs in great shape for $250 or so, sink another $175 into Crites' upgrades and have a pair of speakers that deliver very nice sound indeed.

I'm sitting here, listening to Stevie Wonder's Innervisions on LP, at lower volumes, and it sounds breathtaking.....and this isn't even using my best cartridge!!

...oh, and to return to the original topic, the Grados are breaking in to the point of sounding really far too good for the price point!
 
Congrats, those are the sweet spot in the lower Grado line up imo and yea the 325i's are basically the same thing for $100 more. Enjoy the unique Grado sound!
