I am in need of a moving coil phono preamp possessed of really fantastic sound reproduction.

New or used is OK.

Tubes even better but not absolutely necessary.

Can't break the bank tho.

Suggestions?? :dunno:

do you need low output or high?

if low, PM me, I have a creek audio low output pre that I am not using. it sounded very good with my benz micro gold

Musical Surroundings Phonomena II is an a great sounding and very flexible phono pre than can do both MM and LOMC.

I have also heard good things about the PS Audio GCPH but it is now discontinued.

Am very pleased with my Cary PH 302. Uses Lundahl SUTs to for the MC input and the excellent 6SL7 tubes. Am using with cartridges listed in my signature and am very happy with what I'm hearing. The DL-303 is definitely an LOMC with only 0.2mV output and the PH 302 is very quiet with it, so no issues on having enough gain (58db for MC & 40db for MM). There is a used PH 302 listed on Audiogon that has just gone thru the factory for upgrades and a recap. Should be an even more stellar performer than mine, if it is in your budget.

That said, was using a Nova Phenomena prior to the PH 302 and thought highly of it, as well. Running on batteries, it was very quiet. But, as am now a tube-o-phile, it had to go.
