Ain't it the truth -- I loved my old Indy; my old SPARC boxes were a million miles ahead too. Wish I still had a couple of them -- Solaris is a nice OS.
I remember bringing the 10BaseT network at my work to its' knees by using a SparcStation IPX as a fileserver and a PC with a brand spankin' new, never before been seen CD burner to burn, well, a bunch of coasters and a few music CD's. Of course that's back when you had up to 256 computers on a shared switch before you hit the first bridge or router.
That IPX also pulled duty as a mail server and ran some complex mathematical analysis/graphing software, serving 25 concurrent login sessions without missing a beat. Ahhh, to read mail with PINE. Those old UNIX workstations, whether they ran IRIX or Solaris (or even SunOS) or HP-UX or AIX were pretty bulletproof and orders of magnitude more developed than their PC/Mac counterparts. Of course they cost a helluva lot too...
