MS750 Restore Help Please

Victor

Super Member
Hello All,

I received my new MS750 today. But I can't get the backup I saved from my MS300 to load onto the MS750. :tears:

I have my MS750 connected directly to my PC using an ethernet crossover cable and the backup is on a USB hard drive connected to the PC. I know everything is connected properly and "talking" to each other because I loaded a CD onto my MS750 and I was able to save it from the MS750 to my USB backup hard drive.

When I select a file from the backup drive and try to copy it to my the MS750 I get an error message: "cannot copy (file name) access is denied make sure the disc is not full or write protected and that the file is not in use"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

do you still have the MS300?

No, the MS300 was sold through the local dealer and is long gone.

I was going to load a few CDs on the MS750 then back them up to the USB drive and then delete the CDs from the MS750 and see if I could get those CDs to load from the backup USB drive to the MS750. This will check to see if somehow the files from my MS300 backup are corrupt.

I bet I've seen that error msg a hundred times and it ususally means that one or more of the files that you're trying to copy is locked up by the system (in use, somehow) or that the spot that you're trying to copy to is similarly locked up. I know that's not much help but that's all I've got.

This did not work. When I try to copy a file that was on the MS750 I get the standard "folder already exists" warning and "do you want to overwrite" question. So I know I'm connected to the MS750. If I try to overwrite the folder it just goes back to the "cannot create or replace (file name) make sure the disc is not full or write protected..."

I have an MS300 and am pretty computer savy....if you run out of tracktion on this...I'm willing to help.
The MS750 file system is FAT32 and my MS300 backup hard drive file system is NTFS. Could this be causing my problem?

I suggest calling Escient on Monday. I had a problem moving files from my HD backup to my MS300 and I called them up and in a quick moment they had me on track.

The MS300 help line is one of the best help lines that I have ever called....

I have also had good results with the MS help line. They are only about 5 miles from where I live and I have even visited them in person, they are great.

If I can't get it figured out this weekend you can be sure I'll be calling them early Monday morning.

Yes, it can be the problem.

So can a partition.

There is another way to access the restore folder that is super easy, I am trying to recall how they told me to do it. If you can wait until Monday the help desk will get you going in no time!

"The MS750 file system is FAT32 and my MS300 backup hard drive file system is NTFS. Could this be causing my problem?"

the fat32 vs ntsf is not the root cuase of the problem. This would be a factor only if you are trying to move the entire backup file to the ms750 rather than restoring the backup file to the ms750.

my recomendation would be to restore the file to a drectory on your pc to make sure the backup file is ok. once you extract the files out of the backup file and into the folder on your pc, you could xcopy them to the import directory of your ms750. When using xcopy, open a dos box, run the command with the date and continue on error option, which would not interupt the whole process due to minor errors.

OK, I have this figured out.

With my MS300 I have only done backups, so the only way I linked to the PC and external hard drive was by mapping a network drive with the MS300 content folder. So I did not even think that putting a backup back onto the MS750 would be different but it is, I need to get into the "import" folder on the MS750. I was trying to import to the content folder and of course I now know that will not work.

Import, not content. Silly me, I was hoping it would be something simple.

Import! :twak: Import! :twak: Import! :twak:
