Hi folks,
I hope I am not cross-posting here - I initially asked a question about dropped out center image treble in the Listening Spaces forum. But after some good answers and doing some reading, I am thinking this might have more to do with the speaker configuration itself. I have zen acoustic adagios which have a MTM (D'Appolito) configuration, two 6.5" midwooferss surrounding a 1" ribbon tweeter. They are crystal clear, neutral speakers with low distortion and great, tight bass, etc. My issue is that when I play a mono recording, voices are fine in either channel individually but a little receded when they are summed into the center of the image (likewise for any stereo vocal - e.g., in "A Day In The Life," when Lennon is panning right to left through the center, it goes fine-receded-fine). The effect is not as pronounced at louder volumes and gets better with the speakers way toed in, and it really seems to effect only vocals (snares and highhats and the like don't seem affected - the crossover on these speakers is 3 kHZ; I'm not sure if that makes a difference).
Anyone had this experience with MTM speakers? I have never owned speakers with this configuration before, and am curious if there's some standard way to compensate for this phenomenon that I'm not aware of. Thanks!
