Muffled Vocals Yamaha NS-30t

Hi folks,

Picked up a near mint set of Yamaha NS-30t last week. Hooked them up to a Yamaha R-S300 to test and notice that music sounds....very muffled. Re-checked my wiring to make sure nothing was out of phase. R-S300 works perfectly fine. Tried the same track with my Yamaha NS-244s and it sounded fine. Fairly new to audio so would like help troubleshooting. Thanks :).

It sounds like maybe one or both of the tweeters are blown. Or a problem with the crossover/s.

Or maybe a fuse for the tweeters is blown? I don't know enough about those speakers.

You may need to check the drivers individually with a multi meter to see if the voice coils are open.
 
Not sure if the Tweeters use Ferro-fluid or not but that’s usually the problem I’ve had with my Speakers?!?! The Ferro-fluid tends to dry out with age.

I think your first speculation is the issue. Nothing reading on a multimeter and no response to a 1.5 V battery connection. Thank you for the suggestion.

Sorry to hear that the tweeters are blown. Are you going to try to find replacements?
