Mullard EL34?

In the last great basement cleanout effort of last week, I came across a box containing some tubes and note regarding an old Jolida EL34 amp I had back in the mid 90's.

4- "Mullard" EL34's, 2-Telefunken 12Ax7's and a Telefunken 12AT7.

I had long since figured that these tubes were long gone and probably lost in the move in '01 :banana: I got them from a local audio guy took his word for them that they were in fact Mullard's. No silk screening on them even when I got them. This was prior to Al Gore and myself inventing the internets so I never had a way to easily verify their authenticity.

Question - Are they Mullard?

but funny Mullards... 3 welded and one w/3 crimps - this1 is an alien...:)
is there an etched production code on this one?
 
At a glance looks like a couple of them are stuffed- melted plates. Get them tested before you put them in a valuable vintage amp!
 
I see what you mean Shifty, two of them look to have been a might hot.

Thanks for the offer, but I can test them on my Heathkit no problem. Just haven't got that far yet.

I ran them for a time in that amp. Swapped them out for the original quad the amp came with when I sold it. I had completely forgotten about them until I found the box.

I will test them out tonight and let you know.

If you end up needing one or two to make the quad, I can dig through my stash of used ones. We might get lucky and find a close enough match depending on what you use them in.

I found another mystery brown base EL34 in the clean up along with 5 RCA 6L6G's I forgot I had also. Oh yeah, a bunch that you sent at different times!

Got a wall cab up and this is now my small (but organized finally) tube collection. Most of the good stuff anyway. Doesn't look like much I'm sure, to a seasoned tube warehouse professional like yourself ;)

Maybe someday I will actually get them all into individual marked boxes. For now, the "bulk box" system will have to do. Sure makes finding particular tubes a PIA though.

They tested 2050, 1950, 1600 and 1550 (reject point listed as 1430)

The one testing 1950 dropped around 30% or so during a life test on the Heathkit. The rest, around 15-20%

Everything else looked ok. All went through the leakage test positions without issue. :dunno:

You reminded me...
I have a box of about 47 mullard EL34s. In the 80's I found a guitar shop that had a ton of them that were pulls from where people had put new rubys in their amps. I bought all that he had at the time and then he called me a year later and had a dozen or so more. Some of them are marked Mullard, others just Great Britain on the glass in capital letters. All of them tested very good, some better than others but none were sub-par.

I just went and dug them out to ogle them a little. Not often in my life I have a story of lucking into something like this and it turning out to be a small goldmine later down the road. I paid $1 per tube at the time.

Sad thing is the amps I have that use them are all in storage. My MC225 is all I need :-) Oh well, one day my kids will enjoy them.
