Music Hall Acrylic Platter

I ordered an acrylic platter (supposedly, a Music Hall Acri-Plat) for my Music Hall MMF-2.2 from HiFi Heaven on the bay. The shipment arrived today, and upon pulling the platter out of the box, I noticed there was no Music Hall, or Pro-Ject for that matter, labeling on the box. Just something about Teller Acryl and a few numbers. Strange. I thought it may just be a third party box or something, so I mounted the platter and started the motor. I quickly stopped the motor die to the platter scraping on something (the motor itself, I think).
I have sent the seller a message to see if they have any idea what's going on. I'm planning to send it back for an exchange or money back so I can get one elsewhere.
Has anyone run into anything like this? Or perhaps you can offer insight in to what the actual Music Hall packaging looks like?

It looks like there is some adjustment that can be made to the motor height, but I'm thinking this isn't a legit Music Hall product. If rather not adjust the height if I don't have to. I'd rather just have the real deal that I thought I was getting to begin with.

Exchanging it for an official Pro-Ject or MH might be a serious downgrade lol.

If you read the included instructions you loosen the small allen key on your pulley and lower it a half mm or so so it doesnt scrape the bottom of the platter.

I have purchased several platters and platter mats from them, very well made stuff.

That's just it... There weren't any instructions. It was just a plain white box with Teller Acryl on the side. It specs seem to indicate that it is a bit lighter than the MH. You really think the quality is better? I guess I can give it a shot after lowering the motor a hair.
 
If you look at the pulley on your motor closely there's a small screw on it that attaches it to the motor post. Just ease it off a hair and drop the pulley a very small amount, re tighten the screw and you are good to go.

The original platter just has to be exchanged with the acrylic one. Take off the old one – put on the new one.



In case that the acrylic platter is grinding against the motor drive pulley,
the aluminium pulley wheel has been adjusted downward ca. 1mm (see last photo).



No additional modifications of the turntable are necessary.

You don´t need any mats!!

The record is placed directly on the acrylic platter!!

Music Hall and Pro-Ject both sell that same platter under their own brand name. The stock platter has a ridge in it that raises the bottom surface a bit. That's why it doesn't scape the pulley like the acrylic platter does.

Ordered this on Amazon - Music Hall Acri-platter and received the Teller version… so angry.
I emailed the seller also to find out about exchange - thru Amazon.
 
Just dropped on the acri-plat (it said music hall on the box in handwriting). It was literally just a matter of dropping it on and that's it. Im too lazy to out back the original metal/felt setup to do a side by side comparison but perhaps I should since its so easy.
Anyway, wasn't expecting some dramatic change, which it isn't, but it sounds great...it sounded great before too though. Im happy with it, it looks wonderful on the table and I like how you can now see the motor though it when there is no record on it.

Anyone notice anything special?
 
Well, did the swap on the same track a few times (Bruce Hornsbey's cover of Elton john's Mandman on the water from Two Rooms) and I believe the voice is fuller or more "3d" if you will? Its not an astounding difference, but I certainly wouldn't say there is absolutely no difference. Background is always very quiet too, id say again perhaps a bit better than before.

It sounds really good, so all in all Im happy and I couldn't stand that felt pad slipping off every time I picked up the record, it was an accident waiting to happen if it caught the stylus.

Another benefit is it has stopped the tendency for the album to be held in place when trying to brush it with the hunt eda brush, which is kind of heavy. The felt was probably slipping on the metal before.
