Music Hall Maverick SACD/CD Player

hello all,
I recently purchased a Music Hall Maverick CD player from audiogon. I have to admit, I was seduced by the looks as much as the sound. It is a nice sounding player, but it looks even better when sitting next to some nice silver vintage equipment.

Unfortunately, I bought the first version of the player with the well-documented issues. Discs won't play for random reasons. About 20% of my CDs just won't play. I have been told it cannot be repaired. If anyone knows of a repair, I am listening, but that's not my question.

The player has a digital out. I have a nice DAC. If I used the Maverick just as a transport, will the player still randomly refuse to read CDs? Is there still hope for this player.
Thanks...

A refusal to read random CD's is not related to the DAC. Since you have a DAC and the player give it a try anyway.

Wow. I have a Maverick that I bought second hand almost 10 years ago. Don't know what version it is, but it has no issues reading CD's.

Have you tried contacting Underwood HiFi? They perform modifications on the Maverick, so certainly they could tell you if it can be serviced.

I spoke to a tech who said it was the first version and not repairable. I actually listed it on eBay fully disclosing the issue and it still sold. Perhaps the buyer knew something the tech didn't.
