I am a subscriber to this epic Blue Note series, and I confess that I have been depressed that it seemed to be coming to an end. The passion and commitment of these guys is inspiring. Music Matters titles are admittedly pricey at $50 each, but each title comes in a deluxe, gatefold, heavy-duty tip-on cover with high-resolution art and rare photos inside (unlike the cheap, cheesy covers of some other companies -- ahem). The production and mastering of the discs is outstanding. The quality could not be higher. So hats off to Ron Rambach and Joe Harley, the Music Matters team.
With the May reissues, it seemed like the Music Matters series was coming to an end. In the Music Matters website, the "Preorder" section had no more titles. Until today, that is!

After a summer break, Music Matters will be back with 4 more months of titles, and there are some great ones in there, culminating with Pete La Roca's "Basra" in December. After that, who knows? But at least there are more on the horizon.
If you like jazz and haven't experienced the sound quality of these reissues, do yourself a favor and order a couple. You will be blown away. As great as Blue Note originals sound, these are on another level, IMO. The 45 rpm speed allows a massive presence and solidity that few albums at 33 1/3 can approach.
If you're familiar with Music Matters reissues -- get some more! Let's show these guys we want them to continue, by stepping up and buying albums.
I have never subscribed to a music series before Music Matters, but I am really glad I did. The quality and care that goes into the manufacture is one thing. But the selection of titles is done with equal care, and include under-appreciated classics as well as off-the-radar titles that deserve our attention. I've enjoyed hearing classic titles like "Soul Station" and "Song for My Father," while also discovering titles that have become some of my favorite, which I never would have found otherwise.
Come on guys! This is one bandwagon worth getting on.
