MVP861 vs Denon DVD5910

I currently own a DVD5910. It is an awesome machine, but it doesn't match the rest of the system (mac). Has anyone done a comparasion between the two? Currently, the MVP861 is clearance so the price is very attractive. The down side is the MVP861 doesn't have HDMI. Am I downgrading if I sell the Denon? Here is the link to each. I do not have the "CI" version, but can upgrade for $200.00.
Please give me your opinion. Thanks!

To put a $ value on it ,there is a Denon 5910 selling for $1650 on Audiogon
and an MVP861 selling for $2250.00 on Audiogon
:scratch2:

While I love McIntosh gear, I would doubt the video performance of the 861 will be able to beat the Denon as the denon has a very good scaler chip (not sure what chip the mac has). But I do think, audio will probably be better on the mac. Depends on what is more important to you i guess.

I did a comparasion this evening between the DVD-5910 & Denon S-10 Cd player. Hands down the S-10 kicked the DVD's butt. The S-10 was made in 1994! I am disappointed in the DVD-5910's CD playback.
A comparasion between the SCD-1 to S-10. The SCD-1 sounds A LOT better in everyways.

test gear:
pre-amp - MX119
Amp - MC352
Speakers - JM Lab Electra 915
Cables - Audioquest XLR and RCA, MIT bi-wire speaker cables
CD - Pink Martini (Sympathique) standard CD

I think the 5910 is a SUPERB DVD player. But all dvd players were tuned up for dvd and not audio, I mean redbook cd's. Not sure about SACD.

In any field, if something is really good at something, that means they have put alot of effort to do everything they can to optimize the settings for DVD. I think the S-10 is a SUPERB cd player.

So to answer your questions, keep both!

You mention HDMI. Do you use it? If so then that's a deal breaker. I would not spend that amount of money on a player that did not have HDMI. Either wait for the new player or keep your Denon. The 5910 is an awesome player for both audio and video.
