mx1000 or m85 which to buy ?

I'm in the works to buy the mx1000 . I owned the m85 years ago and sold it . Well I made a mistake ! Been in the hunt to buy the m85 and ran across a person who is selling a mx1000 . Should I wait and buy the m85 again or is the mx1000 just as good ? Also could someone explain what the u stands for
[ mx1000u } , is that u for an amp that is better or mean something else ? What is the best yamaha amp besides the 10000 and the 2000 , to buy ?

The MX10000 and MX2000 are very different amps from the MX-1000.

If you have a fat wallet and can find an MX10000, go for it and don't look back. If you want a somewhat bright amp that is fast and accurate, look to the MX-2000 which is also spendy for a good specimen but not so much as the Centennial. Best other than those two? Maybe the 101M aka PC5002M (ugly format.)

If you want brute power on a budget the MX-1000 is the amp for you.

If you can settle for something a little more utilitarian, the PC2002M is always worth considering.

There's another contender that hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet, but I'm not allowed to discuss that here.

All things considered, if you have a line on a reasonably priced MX-1000 you can't really go wrong if it's in working order. Most will put the MX-1000 at or above the M-80/M-85.

O . K I went out to audition the Mx1000 , and to my surprise , not really pleased ! I recall my 85 just really bringing the music to a live concert performance . The amp {mx1000} is really in great shape in and out , what could be the problem ? The mx1000 seems a bit less built than the m85 .I owned the m85 from new for about twenty years , so I really know the sound ! Yep , I didn't have my speakers there , but we tried a few other pairs .
