My 2245 is Finished

Finally got her done this weekend Its been a road.. all new final transistors, rebuilt both amplifier boards ( saving the new PWBs for a complete to bare metal build in the future), all new caps, relay, partial new wiring, new pots etc..etc..etc.

And boy she sounds good. I think she will give my 2285B a run but I think the 2285B still sounds the best out of all my Marantzs.

Looks great! Definitely one of my favorites. A 2245 that I bought new was my only stereo for over 20 years, and it filled the bill just fine.

Hi Mike,
Did you replace the lights. The question I have is what glue did you use to reattach the vellum paper and radio faceplate? I am about to change the lights in mine. Your amp looks awesome. Great post.

That looks great. I use the same panasonic in that same location, along with all the WIMA's.
And replacing the outputs - that's something I almost never do but wonder if I'm "shorting" myself by not.

Do you feel all the WIMA and film "brightens" up the unit - to the point of losing the Marantz warmth?

Dave, use 3M double-sided tape, 4mm wide. You can find rolls of this on that big auction site. Only some of the sellers have the 4mm. Sometimes the 5mm is too wide so I search for the 4mm.

I did replace the lights with a set from the auction house with a AC/DC converter built in so no flickering. They work pretty well so if the flicker is a bother to you, I recommend them. If not, then the normal LED replacements are fine. I've used both. I bought the tape on Amazon and it's doubleside tape used for digitizer screens and such. Might be 3M but it's a Chinese name so probably a knock off. Its very thin and can be lifted and moved.. once.. maybe I like it a lot better than what had been using which was contact cement.

Nope.. not to my ears. It "cleans" up the sound so less background noise but the Marantz itself sounds like what you expect. Warm, good mids.. solid bass and reasonable highs. I love how my vinyl sounds with the Marantz vs my Kenwood. The pioneer is not done yet so it's not in the running for "favorite". I'm using modern Sony speakers right now.. so that may be some of the tonality. Sony's SSM-F750H 3-Way
