My almost 37+ year old system

This system sounds great to me. It's one of about of five or six combinations of systems I can put together, as I have collected 1970's hi-fi for a few years now. The Pioneer PL12D, TEAC A2300SD, Sansui G5500 and a pair of Celestion Ditton 44's, all combine to give a great sound irrespective of music type or source. I use CD's on another 1970's set-up, but this is one of my favourite 'analogue only' combinations.

Frank123, I'm envious of those speakers! I have their little brother, Celestion Ditton 33's. I'm sure the 44's have a little better bass thanks to the bigger woofer and cabinet. I like mine for the same reason you like yours: they are excellent with pretty much any type of music, and sound good with all decent sources. I hope to find a pair of 44's someday but they are pretty rare here in the US (I assume you are in the UK).
