My Altec 60's Setup

Hey guys. I picked up this setup 7 years ago, sat on it, and finally restored everything recently in the last few months with a certified McIntosh tech. Finally enjoying some smooth sound in my office. One of my clients father passed away, and daughter wanted this entire setup gone so she could replace the floors. I offered $100 to take it all, and she said yes. I gave her $200 causer I felt like I was stealing it. Her father purchased the entire system in 1967, and hand built the entire cabinetry out of teak wood. Was the original owner and always keep in living room. Did a heck of a job. Personally I think the speaker cabs are a little too large for optimal sq ft for the 803B. But it is not ported, its sealed. Anyhow they sound great.

These speakers are way over kill for my 10X12 office!

Speakers:

Altec 803B Bass Woofers
Altec 802 D Drivers
Altex 811 B Horns
Altec N-800-E Crossover

very nice gear.

I'm guessing the Empire 398 is a prop for the photo shoot, with no suspension, it can't be happy sitting on a pair of 15" Altecs

You are correct. That's when I first put them in the office. This is a more up to date pic.

Speaker wire can be your friend. Move the amp, turntable, reel to reel away from the speakers and within arms reach of your listening position.

This was an old photo, the record player is on another table to the right. But have no room for the amp equipment cause there is a leather couch to the right, and my office desk and chair to the left. I do feel that some acoustic foam on the walls woould enhance the sound.

The speakers are pretty faithful iterations of the 826A Iconic system.

Why they omitted the port shall remain a mystery, perhaps a fool's errand.
