My AM Radio Repurpose Thread.

Cleaned up the case.....has a few "I'm being anal" issues, but I know this is a I wanna have fun with it project. I will be epoxying in some stand offs for the main board. I will have to modify the area where the speaker will mount. The potentiometer has tab to hold it still, so will have to make mod to hold the tab. The hole for the shaft is off center from the factory, which kind of surprised me. I have to check the wire layout. The original wire set up that Parts Express provided does not have a provision for an on/off switch. I am just going to split the power wires to the potentiometer. Should work fine. Will see.

Sorry I have slacked on this. Other things get in the way of getting back to it.
There is LOTS of extra wire with the kit provided. I am going to figure out how to shorten them up a bit. I know, wire cutters!! LOL. I just mean to make it neater without shorting myself of what I need. I am planning on replacing the back board, so will probably get on that a bit today.
 
Made a new back board for the project. I wanted to keep the RCA tube label so I made one to match the old one. It is all "burned" into 1/8" basswood. I need to use the small lens for the laser next time. Some of the smaller detail was lost but it will work for a first try.

Starting to assemble the back/case/board. Decided to leave the LONG wires in tact and only cut the ones I really need to. I will just zip-tie the others to shorten them up. No need to make more work out of this than I need to.
 
Whoever was inside of this before me, boogered up the holes for the speaker bolts. They put wood screws in and split one of the mounts. I am epoxying 8-32 bolts to the studs to hold in the speaker.

Found a spade kit that will work with most of my connections. Is there any input as to which ones NOT to use spades???

Been fighting the wiring all day...finally got it worked out. The equalizer board I have will not get recognized but I am wore out and frustrated with it. Need a break.

It plays but not able to balance out the sound makes it sound no bass is present. Should have more.

 
So my take-a-way from this project.....It was fun to mess with..but the return on money spent is not on the positive side. The sound at this point is not what I was shooting for but it will look cool in someone's kitchen if they don't mind the sound quality.
 
It is cool looking. And nice job on mounting everything inside.

And great job on cleaning up the housing. Looking at the “before” picture, I would have thought the silver dial was toast - but you have it looking brand new!

Thank you Sir.....I need to revisit it this weekend....still a bit upset about the bassless sound....need to see if I can get the equalizer board and software to work.
