My Bedroom Corner of Musical Wonder

Life would be so much less interesting without music, wouldn't it?
I finally have my bedroom system completed and I doubt it will change much until I eventually move out to a place of my own, but that's a long time down the road. :)

Yup. Dolby Pro-Logic is fairly defunct at this point but it makes for a wonderful 2ch system and sounds excellent. You can see one of the towers in the last picture, the other one is on the opposite wall. I had a picture that showed both but there's a window right in the middle that kept ruining the exposure on my shots.

Nice setup. The Dolby Pro logic receiver still rocks the 2 channel sound at my house too.

Is that a commercial made album rack ?

Great looking ES receiver. I am a big fan of those old Sony's. They're built like tanks, and like everyone has said, you don't need more than DPL for 2 ch listening

It's made by a company called Glorious, in Germany. The feet I added myself, from another ES reciever I have which is dead.

Definitely. Built to last in every sense of the phrase.

Simple, clean and as such..... very nice.

Laughing a bit because I'm getting the impression a lot of us are using Home Theatre receivers in 2 channel mode these days.

Well I think the market has for the most part migrated to 5.1 and beyond, leaving stictly 2ch recievers relegated to a more selective market, and selective almost always means expensive. Alot of people (myself included) look to vintage units made when 2ch was the norm, but i've had less than stellar experiences with stereo equipment made earlier than 1989. This 909ES is an early 90's unit, meaning it hasen't been around the block as long and should be playing music well into the future, given that at the time Sony was still building these units like tanks to last.

I could be wrong but that's been my experience. Thank you for the compliment.

From my end of things it's just making use of equipment in a slightly different fashion than intended. I have two home theatre receivers that I use in 2 channel mode.

One is my Kenwood KR-V9030 that I purchased new in 1992. Nice receiver but it didn't take me long to figure out that it sounded -vastly- better in 2ch mode (130wpc in that mode BTW). And so, it sits under the TV and is fed by the Verizon fios box as well as a streaming/blu-ray player. Pumps into a nice set of EV interface C speakers.

The other is in our bedroom .... a mid 90's Yamaha unit whose model number I cannot recall right now. Fed by another Verizon fios box, a CD/DVD player, and CD changer. Feed that one into a pair of Ohm Walsh 2 speakers.

They both have remote controls and serve me well.

What I like about your room is the way things tie together. Clean simple furniture and uncluttered audio setup. Intelligent paint color scheme on the wall ties in with the carpet, the guitar and amp displays. Just - plain - cool.

True enough. I have a 5.1 channel system on my computer for watching movies and I run that in 4 channel stereo mode when I want to listen to Internet Radio or shuffle my digital playlist. The vinyl collection is for albums that I love enough to set the needle down on Side A and listen to every track cover to cover. For one or two songs from different albums, different bands, etc. that's what I have the PC for. However, I would not mind having an Internet Radio reciever for my 2ch system since I listen to alot of that.

I do not have the remote for my 909ES, however I do have a collection of the programming codes for the unit that I can download to a PC-programmable universal remote. Just need to find the time to research which to get. Cool thing about these ES units is that the volume control is motorized, so when you adjust it with the remote the knob turns.

I appretiate the comments about my room, I've done the most I can with a relatively small space. (9x12) I love music so I like to annoy my neighbors with a combination of loud music from the turntable and electric guitar.

Sweet! I love the color scheme of your room and the way the Sony ES receiver and dark grey Technics turntable go together. I am not a real big fan of black components in general, but the Sony ES units with the wood end caps are some of the best looking units of their era.

BTW, I love the Bladerunner movie poster too. It's one of my favorite movies of all time, and ties in well with your color scheme. Well done!
