My bedroom stereo system

Hey everyone I was wondering what y'all thought of my bedroom system. Everything was found in my basement.

The receiver I am using is the Onkyo TX-866 complete with original antennas and remote. It seems to be function perfectly.

For speakers I am using the older Bose AM-5. I believe it is the first model.
My favorite part of the AM-5 is the large two channel sub the delivers very deep bass but stays tight.

I'd love to hear criticism and comments. I'm open to suggestions to improve it but being pretty young and not having a job my funds are limited.

I really like those 80s Onkyo TX's. Black-plastic ragers will probably scoff, but they really are nice-sounding receivers.

I've got a TX-860 myself, part of an all-black system that I use for tapes and CDs.

Here are some pictures.

That's a good setup for now. Just a bigger set of speaks & a CD and/or cassette player if you like to start building.

We have some old rather large speakers at our cabin that aren't hooked up and haven't been used in a long time.. I think they may be kenwoods. Im gonna check and see what they are next time I'm there. I have a small portable CD player but it doesn't sound very good.

It's been a year and my system has evolved so I thought it was time for an update.

I'm still using and enjoying the onkyo receiver, the tone controls on it can add an some interesting flair.

I'm still surprised how durable this receiver is, a few months back I had mishap with an aquarium. Long story short about 4 cup or so worth of water ended up going through the top grate while it was on. As soon as I realized what had happened I lunged for the plug but not before hearing an odd click and the music stopping. At this point I though that it was a gonner but after a few days drying in the sun it powered up and seems to sound unchanged. Needless to say I have since rearranged my room so the amp is away from any and all water.

I have switched the Bose speakers out for a pair of pioneer CS-99As and I have noticed a significant difference.

I still use the Bose occasionally depending on the genre of music.

I have a pair of KLH 17s I may swap in if I ever get around to restoring them.

I've also added a DVD player that I use to play CDs. The majority of my lisenting is still from my phone or the radio.

Future planned improvements include the addition of a better sub but this has to wait till I'm done building a sub for the HT.

Comments, suggestions, and criticism are all welcome.

Picture will posted soon.

id find something to control the subwoofer with and make adjustments outside of your subs basic crossover that comes on the plate amp especially if this amp dosnt have a sub output. i have an old pioneer sx1080 i wanted to add a sub to and found the lack of actual controls on the sub frustrating. in the end i hooked a lanzar E540P that i had in a car and that solved that problem without having to break the bank and it was silver. alot of companies make something similar if you run into that problem
