Picked up an Onkyo DD CF1500 recently for the Shure V15MR it was wearing. I will address the dustcover, which is whole, but literally covered with nasty pitting. I'll do a test to see if my efforts will be rewarded and take it from there.

The test was promising!! I went through about 4 sandpaper grits from 150 to 400 wet and then some 3M plastic polish...

400 wet power sanded. Need to dig into my wet grits more and may have to hand sand from here on out.

Go to 800, then 1000, then 1500, then 2000 then 0000 steel wool and then a fine cut auto polish, then A wax cleaner and it should look great.

Wet sand by had each progression of sand paper. oh and with the 0000 steel wool i use Howards feed and wax, about a 50 cent piece size blob.

I've sanded a few covers but haven't seen one that looks like that did. Any idea how it ended looking like that?
 
No clue. It almost looks like there was no slip carpet/router stuff on it that somehow pulled the plastic up.

Those spots stand proud; they aren't dimples...
 
Very good write up it gave me a idea to try heavy duty car rubbing compound on mine though not perfect it did work pretty good
