I bought a pair of Kustom PA speakers about six years ago from a friend. Everything inside was blown. And the boxes even needed to be re-enforced (i.e. re-glued). It was kind of a charity thing. the guy was broke and I overpaid.

They had a large aluminum horn attached to a $2 piezo tweeter and a 15" woofer. I have the same speaker in a smaller box with a 10" woofer which I bought new. I use these for stage monitors and they sound like crap.

But, regarding these, I went to what is now "newark" electronics and bought "mid-range" woofers for around $50 each and titanium screw on drivers for the horns for around $25 each. I also bought a "real" crossover that perfectly matched the drivers and their rolloff points.

It was a happy accident.

They are absolutely hi-fi, even pumped by this thing at full volume.

I think the secret is the use of one of my favorite features of this amp: I engage the 50 hz high pass filter. When I need to go "really" deep, I use a sub. The speakers and amp are allowed to really pump out clean and loud volume without wasting energy on the really deep stuff.

BTW, they are ugly. I'm building new cabinets for them.

Way, way too many peizo tweeters! My ears started bleeding just looking at them.
 
The cabs with the 15s might be decent for bass guitar/keyboard. None of those speakers are intended for hi-fi.
