Picture Discs!

Most favorite is Linda Ronstadt:

This is not exactly about music, or using turntables...didn't know where else to put it! :banana:

I think sandwiching a nice picture disc in a double layer of plastic on a home-made turntable cover would be awesome.

(By the way, both discs are in excellent conditon. What looks like dust or chips on the starship disc are just light spots in the background of the photo on the disc.)

Finnbow...are you saying you don't like the picture, or the music? Remember, I am talking about the appearance of the disc. :yes:

Both. Maybe it's just the contrast between Starship and Linda's sweetness. They look like the lounge act from a Holiday Inn.

I like leaving picture discs on my TTs, too. I rotate them sometimes, but among my favorites are Ghostbusters (glows in the dark! :D), Alien (the movie), a Fame (movie) one with Jennifer Beals on it, a couple of naked-women ones (for the TT in my office room, where my wife doesn't ordinarily see it :D), a "KiSS" set of four with each of their painted faces on a separate disc, etc...


The right picture disc can make a TT look much nicer, IMO. Some colored-vinyl discs can do a lot to enhance a TT's appearance, too. I find that usually the plainer, large-scale ones work better than the ones with complex shots of an entire group. I also like to leave those little metal reel type cassettes in my cassette decks, just for appearance's sake.
 
I agree, Arkay. But, since that is the only one I have of Grace Slick, I will just have to suffer through the other band members being there.

I also have the Marilyn Monroe discs, two black and white, one color...with the nude shot that was used on the cover of the first issue of Playboy. But, I assumed the Karma bosses would yell at me (and more) for posting it.

Funny, isn't it, how these picture discs never seem to gain much value. I have many of them, with all but the Monroe disc hovering around twelve to fifteen dollars or so, as they have been for years.

Well, i don't know what it sold for originally, but i recently saw a Jurassic Park picture disk for a grand. I'd be surprised if it sells for that much, but then again, 90's era soundtrack LPs are kinda rare anyway? Either way, it was pretty neat to look at.
 
funny you mention that, my brother picked up a dark night picture LP a couple months ago, one side is batman and his theme song and the other is joker and his themesong... pretty cool, but my brother bought it thinking it was the entire score haha payed something like 25ish for the two songs! still does look real cool

Well..I agree that it seems unlikely to sell for that. I did see an ad once asking $150,000 for the Michael Jackson 'Thriller' picture disc. Probably put on the market right after he died. Anyway, I have one of those...and when I saw that, I started making vacation plans!:banana: However, after researching....thousands of those were made....and the value is somewhat less than that. :lmao:

I did see where the color Marilyn Monroe disc like I have sold for $125.00 a couple of years ago. So, no use planning a vacation on that one, either. :no:
