My first fail purchase

Picked up a pair of Advent Legacy II's from craigslist for $60. Looked to be in great condition but when I got em home and hooked em up only the woofers were working so I assume I have some bad crossovers or tweets. Buddy of mine is a long time audio guy and told me it happens to everyone if you're in the hobby long enough. Anyone know where I could get replacement parts for these or am I stuck with two great looking paper weights?

If you have tweeters from other speakers or just a driver laying around hook that up. See if that works...if not then you need new capacitors in your crossovers. As old as those speakers are this is a good place to start. You can order new capacitors from parts express for cheap...or even radio shack if you feel like it.
If you need new tweeters somebody on here may have a pair laying around, or we can point you in the right direction to find some. Other wise we can also help make recommendations for good replacement options if you have to go aftermarket.

If it ends up as a static purchase then the price offered is only scrap/parts value. :yes:

Just to see if I could bring them back.

you have come to the right place. the wonderful people around here will help you get your speakers up and running soon enough. The Legacy II's are quite respectable speakers both easy on the eyes and ears.
 
Have you pulled the tweeters out and hooked them directly to the speaker wires at a low volume level with the bass all the way down? That's been Speaker Testing 101 for me for over 30 years. And of course, a DMM.

then again... I know my JBLs are worth way more in parts than as a whole... but I won't be parting them out any time soon!:nono:
