I got up and got my first cup of coffee this morning. Went on CL to see what was being offered. A guy about ten minute drive from me had listed a pair of 15" JBL's. I called he said come get them. I went and looked. These area a near pristine JBL CF-150's. Three way speakers with a 15" woofer. I don't know much about these but for $30 for the pair I thought I'd give them a try.
Anyone ever heard these?

I have a carpet cleaner coming tody - ugh. I gotta wait to play with my new toys for a couple of hours.

Kick-ass system.

Yessiree... he's going to have A LOT of fun with those. His neighbors might not be too thrilled, but I doubt he bought them for the neighbors! :thmbsp:

If the boxes are resonant, you can always brace them internally and upgrade the insulation that is already there. Felt is a good box liner.

Believe it, or not, years ago, I heard a pair of brand new CF-150's being powered by a McIntosh MC-2600 (600wpc) and C-38 Pre.

Of course the Amp was just moping along, but the speakers were handling quite high SPL's without breaking much of a sweat. IMO, not JBL's finest effort, comparing them with much more expensive models, but a pretty good bang for the buck speaker, I almost bought a brand new pair about 2 months ago for $450.

Provided no issues, and they play well, for $30, you stole them. Enjoy! Mark

I finally got them hooked up and tested. They generate an incredible emotional response of fear at the bass they can produce. These are awesome speakers. Both in sound and physical size. The WAF may get a real test tonight when she see's these. I'll tell her we'll just have to move and get a bigger house. :nutz:
We'll probably settle on new furniture for the front room to make it all fit.
She'll really like that.

I bought my set for $100 and absolutely love them. You got a steal of a deal on those. They are very dynamic and have amazing bass, but surprisingly, they don't put out much of anything below 30hz.

I have my pair in my bedroom running off a Marantz model 140. 75wpc is more than enough for these speakers.

Also, look at them with the grills on from the side. To me they look pregnant like that.

Nice grab!

I have a pair of big-box Technics 3-ways in the garage that are similar in cabinet and driver size to what you scored. I'm sure the driver quality in the JBL's is higher than the Technics but I have to say that I realized a substantial firming-up (if that's a phrase) of the mids and upper bass after adding a simple cross brace and some extra fill. Cheap and easy.
