My first monster

I've gone and bought a monster receiver. A Pioneer SX 1050. I like it, but now I want some speakers that I can push a bit, really kick the tires a little.
Any suggestions?

i just checked your local craigslist for fun, tons of options up in there. ESS, Concept C-1.. several way cheap JBL.. there's some Klipsch Quartets that are a steal..super hard to find.. thiels.

Solid choices. They both have their following and both are easy to flip if you don't like the sound.

I really want those ESS C-1s, they look magical, like some V2 of the AMT-3..

I have the AMT-3 and with the right SS/ tube amp (only a few) they sing and reproduce a holographic affect.. but those Klipsch Quartets for $600 fogedaboudit, just grab em if you have the scratch.. superior to the JBL i think but I may not be a JBL guy.. in that I really haven't heard many nice units, in good systems.. though I wish I still had my JBL L36.

HPMmmmm so nice too but also seem to be overpriced (100), whenever I see them on the used market.. but maybe they're 'right' priced for the value.

I bought a used 1050 33 years ago when I was in college and still have it. It needs some service, but I’ll def hang on to it, as it’s one of my faves.
Back in the day, I used Pioneer CS-99a’s, which were overpowered by it. After that, I used it with a pair of 901’s and Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble series 1’s. They were a good match, but the 901’s were ok too.
Today, I’d use a pair of larger ADS speakers with it... larger L towers like L1090, 1290, or1590 or 710/810. I find the ADS mids and tweeters are really smooth and work well with higher powered amps and receivers
