My first Sansui

So here is how it came to be:
I purchased 5 receivers for $100 off of Craigslist. I bought them with the intent of replacing my Yamaha R-300 (which I did like but not impressed) with the best of the five and selling the others to make back the $100. So here were the receivers:
Harmon Kardon Three-Thirty
Harmon Kardon Two-Ten
Pioneer SX-680
Pioneer SX-3500
Sansui 2000A
So after a thorough cleaning of each unit and hours of fun listening to each one to see which one I liked best, there was one clear winner: The Sansui. I liked how pretty the Pioneers were. The SX-680 rocked and the SX-3500 was cool looking but not enough power to run my KLH Model Fours and Realistic Nova 8B's. The Two Ten came from a smoking household and it stinks so I didn't even consider that. I did really like the Three-Thirty but the one that stood out was the Sansui. What a beautifully sounding machine the Sansui is. It was probably the ugliest (in my opinion) out of the five but the sound it makes is sooo good! It's something that can't be explained. It's like I want to listen to every song I have ever liked to just hear it come out of this thing! I am definitely sold on these.

I'm a believer too. 771 and 8080DB here, both are smokin' good, recapped and FM aligned. Not a day goes by that I don't have one or the other blarin'.

Yup, I have a 2000, incredible sound out of these ugly suckers. Mine needs a solder fixed, I wouldn't ever think of letting it go, Sansui sold me long ago.

It was a pretty life changing experience. I can't stop gushing about this receiver. If it had only sounded a little bit better than the Pioneer SX-680, I would have kept the Pioneer because it was that much prettier. The difference was astounding. The 680 was just too crude. It sounded like it was trying to push the same sound out of every speaker. It's almost as if the Sansui knows what sound to put out through what speaker. The harmony is perfect with this receiver.

Please note that I have a couple of Sansuis, so I understand how you feel. Two are working fine and 3 are on the workbench for winter projects.

I too was shocked by the sound of the 9090 and I have owned it since new in "76". I had put in the closet in the 80's and forgot about it as I raised the heathen kids..:) Back in the day...everyone had a powerful receiver and speakers to match..but we were too young and dumb to realize how GOOD it really sounded. We were all about power and it matched our rides as I paraded around in a 383 Mag 70 Cuda and hunted womenzzz. :smoke:

This summer was cleaning out the closet and stumbled on it and thought....let's check it out..and of course the red light came on..:thumbsdn: I found this great forum and was turned on to Dr Audio for the fix. Got it home and hooked everything up, turned it on...and was simply dumbfounded by the sweet warm sound of the past. It was like listening to it for the first time in the deep appreciating type of way I never did in the past.

So yes...Sansui rocks for sure and am continually wandering up the room to listen for awhile and smile.
