My Flying Cats Are Destroying My Speakers - Can You (or God) Help Me?

Create better perches/curiosity points for the cats than speakers.
Cat climbing trees etc near windows
Cabinets/end tables close to windows with their favorite blankets
Furniture near windows again with favorite washable blankets

Speakers on stands around toddlers, dogs, cats and sometimes even adults carries risks.

If necessary create an off limits room and invite 1 at a time but do have somewhere safe and engaging for them, away from your audio equipment.

Velcro is an excellent solution. You attach the velcro to the cats, then the latch side of the sheet to the wall. You can place the cat there until needed, and you always know where to find them.

This also makes them into an effective acoustic room treatment if you put them at the first reflection point. The only problem is you have to turn the music up enough to drown out the constant meowing during the softer passages of a song.

Remember recycle, reuse, repurpose...be creative...it means more than finding ways to utilize plastic grocery bags.

Cheers

Sounds like species jealousy to me. :p

Still, while more households undoubtedly have more cats than pigs, who hasn't heard of Wilbur, Arnold, or Babe? No reason to feel left out. A noble species, to be sure!

Put stones, bricks, granite whatever on top of your speakers so they are not tippy.
Get squirt bottles and wet down the cats whenever they attack the speakers.
You, or they, will eventually tire.
Our Cats never attacked my big speakers.

Do you not remember the movie Babe? The cat hated the pig, it is inherent in their species. The pig did nothing wrong, and was friendly to all the other barn yard animals. The cat was not. Believed herself to be superior to all others. Pigs are far more affable and glad hooved.

The problem, and solution, are obvious. Don't have cats in your home.

Personally, I can't imagine why someone would want such destructive creatures living in their home.
My ex had cats, they used my rows of records for scratching.
I got rid of the woman, and the cats.
Hundreds of jackets destroyed before I reached my snapping point.

The mice probably put the poor misunderstood cat up to it. You know you can't trust mice...

Present AK company excluded, of course. ;)

At one point we had 3 cats and 2 dogs. Cats are declawed in the front and fixed so no worries there on scratching things up. Currently have 2 cats and one dog as one of my 16 year old cats died on Labor Day and my wifes 16 year old Cocker Spaniel died in early May before we moved into the new house. That dog couldn't control its bladder or bowel functions for its last 6 to 8 months of life and as much as I hate to say it, I'm glad it passed before we moved into the new house. The dog wore diapers all the time inside the house...it was a nightmare.

I can't say one is better than the other as far as pets go but I will be glad when we have no more. I'm tired of being the one that takes care of all the animals on a daily basis; they want all the perks but none of the work with pets. I have one 16 year old cat left and another that's 5. Once they are done, no more cats...as much as I have enjoyed their low maintenance lifestyle, compared to dogs, I'm done. My wife on the other hand says she will always have to have a dog around. Sigh... Being single was so much easier.

Now everything I use is upstairs in its own room. I keep the door shut, as much as I don't like to, to keep the dog out so she doesn't **** or pee on the carpet since she turns retarded on occasion. The cats just lay on the couch...they don't care about the stereo things. The speakers are big enough that they won't tip over, either.

Yeah, that's another thought. Replace the speakers with some vintage monkey coffins instead or some that are really heavy.

I swear to God, I am an awesome pet parent - BUT I am ready to snap!

Is there a better solution? I cannot kill the cats (yet?), nor can I rehome them. I am afraid however that I might find myself in the nearest psychiatric hospital if one more speaker hits the hardwood fllor with a merciouly brutal bang.

Floor standers. BIG floor standers. Or maybe in-wall speakers? or as Macgolf said give the cats something more desirable to perch on. Cats love heights. Pay no mind to Mr.Pig. He never got over not having a "Pictures of Pigs On Audio Gear" thread.

There was a cat -- one -- around my gear for a few years. THing never showed even the slightest interest in any of the gear, not even the "textured", oh-so-scratchable (lookin') speaker grill covers. Some cats are PITAs, some aren't. I blame humans.
