My greatest achievement yet...finally complete.

Got this Sanyo TP-1020 turntable locally for free. Tonearm counterweight was backwards, reject wasn’t working (sorta), finicky dirty cueing lever, bad cables, and a broken stylus. It came with an Omni pivot improved cartridge, which is awesome though. I thought the features of this table were really neat though, and I had some free time, so I picked it up. I asked my boyfriend if he wanted the Sanyo or the Realistic more based on if both were working. No contest for him, the Sanyo matches his other gear perfectly and the speed adjustments are really nice. So I took this on and decided to fix and clean it. Started with the counterweight, then the cueing lever, then reject, deoxidizing the pots, oiling the motor, and finally the cables. Yesterday I got an ADC stylus locally, adjusted the cueing lever height to compensate for the cartridge and needle, and it’s all ready. Sounds great! By far the most I’ve had to do on the 4 turntables I’ve fixed, and yet is probably my most successful. We will be happily spinning this table for years to come (hopefully ;) )

That's a great price for a very good turntable. Congratulations and enjoy! BTW what ADC cartridge is mounted on the TP-2020?

Not sure of the cart beyond the fact that it says Omni Pivot Improved. It’s not the gold though. But a stylus saying QLM 32 MK III we determined fit.

Congrats!

Suggestion if you haven't already done so: balance the turntable in both planes using a bubble level. The feet are likely adjustable.

Arm and cartridge will appreciate it and you'll get the best results.

At some point, if you desire to improve the detail, especially the treble response of your ADC cartridge, I recommend spending $45 to get the EVG Swiss nude elliptical stylus.

The QLM 32 was at the bottom end of the ADC styli; stiffer suspension and lacking the best sound capable by the ADC cartridge.

Honestly, not surprised. I definitely thought the price ($20) seemed a bit low since I’ve bought other adc styli for $35. I will buy this eventually, but in the meantime what we’ve got will probably have to do. He doesn’t mind the sound at all, but I’m not doubting that stylus will sound much better.

Thank you. I am doubly impressed by the fact that OP is a young lady. These are not the times to step in some political incorrectness, though. I would say that the most impressive thing is taking the interest to do this kind of work. With interest comes ability, regardless of shall we say "demographic profile".
No worries :) I got into this initially because a friend of mine in HS (male) fixed turntables. However, I didn’t pursue this until post-college. I had a Crosley(ew) throughout college, and one day it started running slow. Looked everywhere online for info on how to fix, since I had just replaced the belt and it still had the issue. Found out there’s speed adjustment screws in the motor, and fixed it. That’s where it all began :) obviously it’s grown quite a bit since then, but that was the first time I really thought about fixing things like this.

Hey, quick q everyone! This is a similar pic of the cartridge. Top and back look exactly the same, but it’s silver instead of gold. This is an MK III correct? I’m having trouble finding information on the silver variation. I’m just wondering so I can buy the correct stylus in the future, though I think @Wolfie62 is right.

The closed mounting holes and Omni-Pivot sticker tells us it's a final-generation (ie, it's for the Mk III Improved styli but also for the upper-tier Mk III not-Improveds) ADC body. The silver color indicates that it was most likely sold with a QLM stylus (the QLM 36 Mk III Improved), but in other respects it's interchangeable with similar-looking gold bodies. Get the best Mk III Improved styli you can find/afford, but if that's not possible, I'm sure there will be recommendations on the current generic replacement situation along soon.

Awesome, exactly the information I needed. Thank you!

Yup! A silver-bodied version of the top tier ZLM/XLM/VLM MKIII body.

You can still get great, affordable original styli if you look around.

Just got this original ADC nude elliptical stylus, reasonable price, and perfect for that cart.
