There's enough width to the gear drive, say 3/4" engagment, that the platter can lay on the lazy susan AND still engage 80% or more of the female drive (Sounds sort of erotic, doesn't it??). That was one of the challenges, as it did wobble quite a bit, even with some plastic shims/supports I tried to rig up. But now she's darn near rock steady when I'm scrubbing.
