My Homemade WC-22, Watcha Think?

Nice job, always wanted to build one myself, but I don't even have time to recapp all the gear I bring in the house! YD
 
Finally finished it. 4 coats of satin wipe on poly. No stain. After 24 hours of drying, buffed with a brown paper bag. Case is actually a little darker than the pictures. The flash must lighten it up. Worked out great.

Looks great! Did you go with the wire mesh wastebasket to make the grill? I wanna see some pics with the receiver in it! I snagged an original WC-22 that I'm gonna refinish this weekend, I can only hope that it turns out as nice as your DIY cab. I'll throw up some pics of it with my 2235B when I get it done.
 
Very nice. I looked at all the pictures and it looks like walnut, but there is at least one photo in your latest batch that looks like mahogany. Can't tell without closer photos of the grain. Is it cross-grained at all? Walnut is straight grained but mahogany has flecks and crossgrain patterns. I'm a wood guy, can't help myself.
 
I did end up using a cut up trash can. It's not original, but once the receiver is in, it shouldn't look so see through. Plus, you'll be able to see the guts a little better.
I can get you some closer photos of the raw veneer if you'd like. I was told it was mahogany when i picked it up. When I was sanding it, the dust definitly had a red tint to it, so i'm assuming mahogany. Lemme know if you'd like more pics of the veneer or closeups.
I'll try at some point to get the 2285b in for some pics too.

Great Job ! If I had room , I would build a bigger table for my saw . "Skillsaw too inaccurate for me " Or alcohol makes it that way:D

Only if you're interested in a second opinion, but if it was sold as mahogany and the sawdust was red, you're probably pretty confident about it.

Took me awhile, but i'm finally done. I ended up replacing the vellum behind the dial tuner because I was in there anyways to replace the stereo lamps. There wasn't any behind the meters, dunno why, so i put some in. Close up on the side for 2nd opinion from toxic!

There is a professional woodworking (furniture-crafting) shop here that makes these to order through/for a local shop. I've seen their work, and yours is AT LEAST as good as theirs. VERY nice job - congratulations! :thmbsp:

If you were closer, I'd want to take one of the 2285B cases off your hands... my second one is "naked" (no wood)! :yikes:
