My Less Than $500 TT is on it's way!

I'm going to run the standard cartridge for awhile and see how I like it, before making any changes. If I do anything to it, I will most certainly use the Grado.

I'll gab with you again

John(2):music:

How do you like the SL-2000? I like the black tonearm..

I am looking at one online..:scratch2:

Thanks,
John.:music:

I am looking to by a new TT in the new year and this sounds like good buy, although I have read some reviews about there being some hum, you notice anything like that?

I have not heard anything yet, I have it hooked up to a Fisher CA-800 amp right now. I will check tomorrow and post again.

I like it but that's me.

Thanks,

Hi eteller,

I like your avitar, I knew John Belushi and he was a cool guy. One time I was driving him to the village at night in Manhattan, after SNL, in a snow storm. Some guys were stuck in the snow, and he asked me to stop and we pushed them out. They were young guys and got the thrill of their lives! I'm sorry he died that way.

I promise to come back here after I get the Denon up and running with a report for you. They said it should be shipped on Dec 1, so I figure about a week later I should get it.

Wow, that's uber-cool!!!:smoke:

The Denon DP-300F got here today! Setup was not difficult and I've been playing records this afternoon. It really works well, with no hum. There is no rumble and the speed seems to be right on with no flutter or wow. The supplied Denon cartridge was quite satisfactory to me, although I might try changing over to my Grado Black later on. I used it with the built-in preamp off because my Sherwood has a phono jack. I used it in manual and automatic modes with the cover up and down, and there were no problems. It ran smoothly and quietly and the only time I heard anything was when it was lifting the arm. My Technics SL-2000, all of 31 years old, and still going strong, has been setup in my basement to work with my Kenwood KR 6600 using KLH 6 and AR4x speakers. Everybody is happy!:music:

Awesome, congratulations on getting everything all set up. Sounds like an excellent table. This thread has me considering one for myself.

John, please let us know if the Grado hums on your new DP-300F. There is so little info out there on the current crop of Denon tables, all that you and John jleon92f share is much appreciated.

It must have been real cool to have known John Belushi. One of my all time favorite movies is 'Neighbors' with John and Dan. :thmbsp:

I am glad you are happy with the Denon, I am playing mine now, trouble free NEW TT. You can spend more time actually listening to the Music now!

Send some pictures when you have time.. I am still waiting for the headshells?

Enjoy!

Hi John,

I really like the automatic action, very smooth. It actually seems to be better insulated from vibration than my Technics SL-2000, I can walk by it now while it's playing and not worry about the stylus jumping.

Where did you order an extra headshell from? I'd rather mount the Grado on that then remove the Denon cartridge.

The Denon is now in my avitar, how do I upload larger pictures? Thanks for your review, it was what made me decide to go for it. I am very pleased with it, thanks!

When you go to edit you manage your attachments (pics) the size is 900 x 900 max. Need to edit them with your computer.

The headshells are coming from CA I hope, Let me get mine 1st then if they arrive OK I will give you the address. I think it was in the thread anyway.

Enjoy It..

Thanks John, I'll look through the thread.

I can just post the pictures here as long as they are 900x900? OK. I thought that I needed to use an outside storage place with a link, that's why I never popped them in. Oooops I tried to upload the picture, but it failed. I'll have to work on that.

John, that Technics SL-2000 is a fine turntable, it is not a quartz drive just servo, but it has been running without any speed problems or rumble for 31 years. The arm bearings are still fine.

Because of its age the metal around the platter has tarnished and become dulled and it is a fully manual unit. It is also a bit sensitive to outside vibrations. I am now using it downstairs with my basement system.

I posted a detailed review of the Denon DP-300F in the review section for anyone who might be interested in knowing about it. It's a nice unit and with a good price.:thmbsp:

Just enter the Guest area with Denon.

BTW Great! Review! Could not have said it better myself..

Thanks,

Not to thread jack here, but that is actually a favorite movie of mine too, I had to get a Oppo DVD player to play the region 2 (PAL) disc of that movie. Could not find it in the US.

I was with NBC for 30 years and then an official of the Directors Guild of America for another 10 years, so I had 40 years in network TV. A lot of those years were working on great shows and I had the chance to work with and know some really wonderful people. John was a good kid and a real professional when it came to his craft.

John, thanks for that link, I put it in my favorites. Right now I'm happy with the standard cartridge, and the Grado Black is doing duty with the Technics SL-2000. I'm also interested in how the Shure MX97E sounds. The Denon arm looks like it would work well with any of these.

This thread is a little old, but I had a question, since I'm interested in this turntable (DP-300F).

One of the criticisms was that as the tone arm approached the center of the album, it picked up more hum. The commenter suggested this was because of poor electrical motor shielding.

Has anyone experiences this; increased hum as the tonearm approaches the center of the record?

^^ I know this is a bit unrelated to the Denon, but you can get a Technics SL-1200 for 395 shiped to your door right now, so for the few extra bux I would get one of those over the Denon. Just my 2c.

No hum at any stage on mine. Not a single complaint. :thmbsp:

I have no Hum at all on the stock and newer cartridge.(AT440MLa)

Great Table.

Thanks,

Nice looking TT. I actually was considering one of those Denon's about 18 months ago, but ended up going manual because my old Dual 1249 is auto. I ended up spending much more for the Music Hall in my signature. If I don't feel like getting up every 20 minutes, I use the Dual, but I mostly use the MH.
