My most favorite piece of gear

VinylHanger

Navigaret ex ironia
I finally figured out what the most important piece of audio gear I have is. It went something like this. For the last few weeks I have been wanting to put my vinyl on my mp3 player. So I went through my gear and picked a "new" to me Kenny KA-6100. The only place I had to put it was next to my laptop station set on top of two EPI 100v's. Not great for listening, but works for basic recording onto the laptop.

Well, after a whole friggen weekend of trying to get a decent signal into my laptop without a level line input I gave up. But I wanted to hear the amp as I hadn't heard it properly set up. I even had cleaned the pots and everything, which is a big deal for me as I usually just go for it and hope for the best and then fix it if it needs it.

Well this weekend I was looking around the mancave, standing in the once again only spot I could fit and really wanted to hear that amp. However, I was giving in to my lazy bone and didn't want to unhook the 100v's and then rehook it up to the Infinitys. Having only one spot on the floor to stand makes this a very frustrating proccess.

Well, as I stood there pondering, I decided to move some stuff around to get at the amp. Lo and behold, the first thing I started to toss into a corner was a brick of a unit. I then realized it was like the one under it. "Ah", my little mind said, " that is perfect."

A few months ago I had found a stack of switching units at a Goodwill that shall remain secret as I have had good luck in the area finding esoteric oddball stuff, and a ton of great music. Anyway, out of the pile of stuff I pulled my little brick, a Russound SD-4. 2 amp inputs and 4 speaker outs. this I hooked into an Adcom GFS-6 speaker selector which was already hooked up to my Mancave speaker array.

Long story short, I now have both the H/K 775 amps and the Kenny running into the Mancave array which consists of the Mach 1's, the Infinity cs-3006 Crescendoes, the Mac ML-1C's and the Acoustic Design D-6's. I can run either amp into any or all speakers, or run the Kenny into my Infinities which are set up as laptop speakers to monitor recordings of my vinyl and then I can listen to the H/K setup in the background in case I am recording something and want to listen to something else. I love multi-tasking.

Anyway, sorry to drone on but I guess I just felt like writing tonight as I have been in a illness/funk mood for the last few months. Today it finally broke and I feel like dancing. However, since I like you all I figured you would rather read my useless drivel than see pictures of me dancing.

Oh, why exactly is this my favorite piece of gear, besides the obvious stated above? Well, as near as I can figure, I can now hook up 4 amps and 13 sets of speakers, one of the Russound units is missing one of the switch sets. As I have been downsizing, I now am a couple of sets of speaks short. At least operational ones, so I now have a great excuse to fix the ones in my stable in need of refoaming. And I can tell my wife it must be done as it causes all sorts of balance issues if any of the outputs are left empty. I am sure she will believe me. :scratch2: :smoke:

Oh, how does the Kenny sound. Pretty darn punchy through the DA D-6's. A bit hot on the high end, but I have started to prefer that these days, the mids are awesome indeed. Plenty of power, with nuts to spare. Not the clean "modern" sound of the H/K's, but I think I have found a silver era unit I can live with for a while. Just the thing I need to get me dancing. Pictures at 11. :music:

Far out, VH, finding those at a thrift is way cool.
When I had all the receivers in the house, I had two similar units. Made switching between receivers and speakers a breeze, and mine accepted 12 ga wire, too.
Hey, glad the funk mood is past! Rock on!
