My new console

And FISHER's are the worse for losing the lettering. Just hit the areas with NO LETTERING. Get some white cotton gloves, and you'll lessen the chance of it coming off on your fingers.

Thanks again for the tips. So, gloves, dryer sheets, and money for the laundry mat; Check. I get the feeling this is going to be like owning a boat, money will constantly disappear into it.

I've done some more poking around on it, its got Fisher branded speakers (good, bad or indifferent?) and the TT has a shure m44-7 so I guess I can DJ some of my 78s. :screwy:

I hooked it up to my computer and some Slim Cessna came on and I discovered it is a mortal sin to play music containing slide guitar on anything else. :music:

I've only heard one Fisher console, and it was a hybrid (transistor amp). The sound quality blew me away - Avery & Co. did a great job picking parts. They'll probably be a bit more oriented towards classical and jazz, not rock, though I'm sure anything will sound good on it. Avery was a huge fan of classical music, and even introduced the "Spacexpander" reverb unit to simulate large "concert hall" sound.

I've got 2 of the Hybrids (Electra VIII & FUTURA VI) and absolutely love them. Once you recap them, weed out the out of spec resistors, regrease the transistors to the heatsinks, and make sure the tubes are at least running minimally (all my 6HU8's on both are showing slightly weak but the rest are testing 80%+ on the tester) they sound GREAT! Pretty good on R&R, Classic Rock. FANTASTIC on JAZZ, CLASSICAL, MOVIE MUSICAL Sound Tracks. Not real heavy on the Bass, but everything is pretty well balanced and neutral.

Haven't heard an ALL Tube FISHER CONSOLE yet. HMMMMM! (Uncle FESTER Moment!!) Have that 69 Electra SS console, I can hook up to the 400 for a test run. The 400 is too big to fit the cabinet without MAJOR surgery, but I can attach the spkrs and TT to it with the cables and some extenders. Might be interesting.

The big problem with Hybrids is the 6HU8 tube. They run about $50. each and there aren't anymore being made, and stocks are dwindling fast. Get some while you can if you have a hybrid.
