My "new" Fisher Custom Electra I

I've been a lurker here for a good while, enjoying the excitement of everyone's scores. It's cheaper that way too! However, I just found my first Fisher console; a Custom Electra I with a K-14 chassis s/n 58,418. I've never seen this cabinet style before, however. It looks like a mid-century modern style with tambour doors. I have a question about the speaker and speaker cabinet. It has a University 6200 12 inch, 30 watt speaker installed, and what looks like an 8 inch port on the front also. However, it looks like someone sealed it off with a piece of luan plywood. You can tell it was added because the stain doesn't match the surrounding wood. I don't remember anyone mentioning that Fisher consoles used University speakers. I am guessing that the speaker is not original, even though it is a correct period speaker. What would be the correct speaker for this console? By the way, making an actual score IS more exciting!

Nice catch. But that looks like a CUSTOM Cabinet with a CE I's guts in it. I've seen that console somewhere in the last couple years on here. Usually the original speaker from FISHER was a JENSEN 15" I think it's a H-510, coax or a Jensen Duplex 15". I don't know if they were still putting the STEPHENS TRUAX in them at that point. That University is no slouch in there either. Possibility exists that there might have been two speakers in there.

Thanks for the info larryderouin. Whatever the larger speaker, it has to be a 12 inch. The speaker cabinet is narrower and a 15 inch won't fit. If it did have a second speaker, I see no evidence of a crossover ever being attached anywhere in the cabinet, unless it was attached to the smaller speaker directly.

If it had a 8" it was probably set up for mid/high's with a C-R network usually on the leads of the smaller speaker. The original cabinets usually had the 15" coax, or the Stephens TRUAX in it as they were deeper. I know my Jensen Duplex just has a cap for the tweeter in it. The more I look at this one the more I feel it's a custom job. Pretty good too with the Tambours. I wouldn't kick it out of the living room for collecting dust bunnies tho.

Looks almost like a late '50's RCA modern blonde cabinet design. The quality with the tambour doors looks much better, though.

Still a great piece. I'd be happy to own it.
