My New System Teaser

Inspiribomb

Enjoy the journey
I'll be posting a longer explaination of my system metamorphosis, but until then, here is what I've purchased to replace my Kennies:

Amp: Channel Islands Audio D-200 Monoblocks, 200 watts RMS of Class D goodness.

Preamp: Bel Canto Pre.3

Additionally, I bought a complete set of Zebra Cables IC's and speaker cable to route everything. This stuff can't arrive fast enough :D

Ultra chic looking preamp. :thmbsp:
Promise you'll tell us how it sounds, when you get it all finally hooked-up.OK? :D

Nice! It's almost as if I had a conversation with some guy about that very same gear yesterday. Spooky ;)

I think I'm about as excited to hear it as you are

I will receive the preamp about a week before the amps, so that will give me a chance to "hear" it (even though you shouldn't hear a preamp) with my restored Toshiba M15 power amp. I am very excited, and even moreso now that I will have a remote control for it!!!

The amps are not digital, but are Class D, and use Hypex UCD-400 modules, IIRC. These are supposed to be as good as the Bel Canto Ref1000's (which cost 2X as much), sheer power output aside. They are a truly balanced design, so I can have the inputs swapped out for XLR connections in the future if I desire.

Sometime this weekend I'll post something insightful regarding my system change and whatnot. This should be a beautiful combination with my NHT Classic 3's.

Arron,

Congrats on a nice progression within your setup. I'm very pleased to see you've found happiness with new gear.

I adore good sound, and gear from many periods of the audio reproduction period. I love my remote-controllable late 80's/early 90's Philips SC-80 pre-amp as much as my mid-late 70's Sansui CA-2000 pre-amp, and my 70's a/d/s/ and Dahlquist speakers as much as my 80's Thiels and 90's Vandies.

While this site is primarily focused on vintage gear, the natural progression of covering gear from all periods, the early tube and mono days to the 70's silver-faced golden era to the 80's high-end offerings to the 90's ultra-refinement to the 2000's boutique offerings and signature sounds, is truly a blessing.

I am excited to hear what you've put together, and wish you great luck and synergy with the new components.

This phase of your collection, which is based in the audio performance of the gear, and the pursuit of better sound, is truly inspiring.

Considering what they're replacing, I imagine they'll sound fabulous.

Pics of the whole setup, please, when assembled...

Looks great IB, hope your speakers have a pretty stable impedence characteristic...switching amps work great under those circumstances, not so much if they don't.

Just read the manual. Interesting.

Have you laid hands on one yet? I wonder how the knob feels when pressing it in.

When you had the Kenwood pre, were you using any of the features? I imagine not.

I did go to Audio Perfection and got to play with a pair of Ref1000's, the CD2 and their DAC. Very solid feeling. With the 700C, I didn't so much as use the balance. Tone controls were totally flat, just used the volume.

After checking Agon, I feel even better about the amp purchase. A pair of D-100's just sold for almost as much as I got my D-200's for
