My new TT is MUCH more quiet than everything else... Why?

Greetings, I recently aquired a Yamaha YP-D71. I like it a lot, it's a really nice table. Definitely an upgrade from my Goldring GR-1.
I hooked it up, grabbed a nice stack of wax to have a celebratory spin-fest and upon it's first run, I noticed that it's VERY quiet. I'm running it through a Pioneer SX-750, and to get any volume even close to anything else I noticed I need to turn the volume all the way up and it's still nowhere near an offensive volume.
Everything else sounds normal. Tuner, aux, tape, all fine.
So I hooked my old table back up and it's normal. What could be the reason the Yamaha is so quiet?
It's got an Audio Technica AT-OC9 (mc), which is a decent cartridge....
I'm at a loss.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If you are using an moving coil cart, you'll need a receiver capable of MC in the phono stage.

The Pioneer SX-750 doesn't have that.

I'd get an Emotiva preamp, and call it good.
 
The output of a moving coil is much less than a moving magnet. Your AT-OC9 output is 0.4mV. The Audio Technica 440 moving magnet cart, for example is 4mV
 
Of course having an underrated killer receiver that handles both MC & MM wonderfully along with any other kind of analog play back to its fullest potential might be a goal for the future !
