My Office System Part Two - Updated July 19

Yeah . . . like what the hell was wrong with what I had, right? Well, I had an MC2300 chillin' with no home. [Now I've got an MC2105 chillin' with no home - but the misses says KEEP IT, so I will do.]

I scored a nice dual 14U rack out of the local PBS affiliate studios last Friday. I got a smokin' deal on it so I couldn't turn that down.

I've been working on this most of the weekend - what a job. Everything in the office had to be re-arranged to get this cabinet alongside the desk.

What do you guys think? It sounds REALLY good, save for one small low frequency feedback issue that crept up out of nowhere. But, I've got some ideas on that. Weird. Here are some IN PROGRESS pics. I'll get a nice finished one later tonight or tomorrow.

Valveglow - you crack me up.

Silversleep - yes indeed. A long time ago, I ran strapped MC2300s and I've not run two MC2300s in a system together since. So, this is kind of a blast from the past if you will for me.

Quartersaw now has a pair of MC2300s, Don has a pair of MC2500s and Rich Andrews also a pair of MC2500s. These old Mc amps are tons of fun (literally).

I'll get a shot of the installed system tomorrow so you guys can check it out. I'm really stoked about how it all came out.

Quartersaw & Don . . . this set-up garnered the approval of the misses. Best thing is that since neither of you have the side rails for your amplifiers, something like this solves a few problems simultaneously.

My right arm is still a bit sore though from handling these 130 pound amplifiers so use some common sense and get a buddy to lend a helping hand.

Looks like a nice, neat installation!
Moving those beasts is definitely a chore. I would've had my system configured the way I wanted it by now if not for the 'boat anchor' factor. :D

Here's the finished pics. Now this set-up is a wee bit mental, but hey . . . you only live once! I have not yet had a chance to push it as everyone is home. Tomorrow . . .

Currently, the Crown amp is taking up space and not being used. They're not selling for much on the used market now so it makes sense to just let it sit there and not take a bath on it. [In twenty years, I'll be on a hoarder episode.] As far as air flow, the MC2300s pull air into the sides of the amp and exhaust it out the rear. There is about an inch and a half of space between the rack and the sides of the amps and the rack is directly below an A/C vent.

Thus far, the fans have cycled very little.

OK, that answers that question...Good!

SO, I've got 3U worth of empty slots on the left. What should I stick in there? I thought about finding some rack handles for my KT-8300 but I like it just where it is - super easy to access.

I thought maybe a Nakamichi MR-1 but I NEVER play / record cassettes so that'd just be a waste. I'm obviously good on amplification . . .

Thoughts?

Are you REALLY certain about this? Just in case:

I just stumbled across this old pic. This is how the office system began . . . just a bunch of gear that I wasn't using in a system at the moment. I hooked it up on a whim to get some sound in the office. Funny how it morphed into what it has.

As I got more serious, the Behringer mixer got retired - just way too much crosstalk between sources. The biamp mixer I replaced it with is an outstanding preamp and adds an element of fun.
