I mail a fair amount of stuff. Mostly invoices and Service Reports to customers. Several checks to pay invoices as well.

I like to buy attractive postage stamps. Yes, I know that I can buy "Forever" stamps, I keep a few in my Daytimer for unplanned mailings, but I like the artistic aspect of stamps.

I like to convey an emotion with the stamps. most people probably don't notice, but i enjoy it!

Recently had some nice Bette Davis stamps as well as Edgar Allen Poe. New stamps at the Post Office today.

The Simpsons! 5 designs, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. Doh!!

I wanted to get my hands on the series of 50's cars from a few months ago... and the next time I'm at the PO I want some of those Simpsons stamps too.
I picked up some of the Marvel and DC comics ones a while back, as well. The DC ones got used on mail, the Marvel ones are in my desk somewhere.

I'd love to know what the recipients think when they see stamps like these, like doctor's offices, the phone company, etc.:D

While I was still collecting I would use commemoratives on all outgoing mail. I even have an envelope with the whole sheet of 10 $0.29 stamps on it, a 1941 WW II commemorative issued in 1998. The Post Office very carefully cancelled each stamp and left the world map in the middle quite clear. I finally gave up on collecting when they issued all those cut-rate stamps for bulk mailers. Then the Swedes and the Aussies started selling to collectors from some outfit in the mid-west that insisted we buy three of everything.

My favorite stamp is the one you peel off a bill sent to you that was never stamped by the P.O.. :D
 
I bought the Storm series stamps for quite some time only to find out out a few months ago USPS was discontinuing the series.

What stopped me collecting was the cut rate stamps because they were in fractions and so you needed at least ten, then they had them as sheets or coils, or started with phony commemoratives like the Simpsons, proving that all they were trying to do was screw collectors since the service the stamps were for would never be used. On top of that the stamps are issued in such volume they will never appreciate in value.
 
Heh, I got a couple of the Edgar Allen Poe ones last time I mailed things. I'd never be a collector, but there are some cool ones out there.
 
I got to admit that I usually just buy what I can get at the gas station or so... The best ones are those with adhesive like a sticker so I don't have to bother with licking them like some porn "actor". :yuck: At least they're somewhat exotic to many members here since they're Swedish. :D
 
I mostly use forever stamps, but I did use some "northern lights" stamps for CHristmas/Holidays once - kinda nice.

Anyone ever use the customized ones with an image chosen by you?

While I rarely ever send snail-mail and use the standard "forever" stamps; I always appreciate someone using a "off-the-wall" stamp on an envelope I receive. Those are certainly interesting looking stamps!
 
Stamp out boring stamps!!!

I have a customer that has some equipment that is certified by me once per year. It requires 3 days of service at 12 different locations.

When I mail the certifications, it's in a large manilla envelope. I always use "colorful and interesting" stamps. One year I happened to be near their office and just "dropped off" the envelope.

The receipient called me up and asked "what happened to the neat stamps"?

I resumed mailing them again the next year and continue to do so! :yes:
