My quest for JBL L 100 T a fascinating tale

Without photos, I suspect you can gradually bring these back to life:

Buy cheap veneer on eBay and re-veneer them.

Buy one stray woofer cheaply on eBay.

Repeat.

Eventually you may have some very fine speakers. :D

You are more likley to do damage to the cab by scraping without a stripper as you will be mor likely to scratch or gouge the cabnites. Do a search on some woodwork forums about stripping apint off veneer (any advice I give may not be relevent as the products we have down here a probably completely different)

No intent to "do it my way". I will probably do as you suggest. I just want avoid any further damage since this is a project I have never undertaken.
 
They're not glued-in, just stuck. Most likely the re-paint makes it more so.

Again, once they're out, mind the fragile terminals when removing the wires.
 
So do you still have these and are you considering trying to rehab them? Any luck with the paint stripper/stripping? IF there was previous damage to the cabinets (?mold?) you still have the option of reveneer which isn't that difficult with a flat sided cabinet like the L100T.

Let us know your location so that there might be someone closer to you to help. Or possibility of shipping stuff to you if needed.

If the rest of the mid and tweeter are good, the woofers can be had fairly easily. Become a subscriber and put out a wanted on BT, you'll likely get responses.

Again, all depends on how much work and $$$ you have to put into these speakers vs. availability of future acquisitions.

Haven't done any more work on E'm, but Still have E'm. Photos coming probably next week. Chances are I'm going to part these out in hopes of finding a perfect set, but may sell them as is stay tuned.
 
So, is the dream no longer L100t or just not these?

There's not really a lot of work there. The paint stripper will get those clean in an hour or two once you pull out the drivers. Just paint one face of the speaker, let it work for 10 minutes and a plastic putty knife should clean it right off.

Spend another hour or two with the palm sander and 220grit to carefully clean them up (don't sand through the veneer). Then it's just a rag or paper towel with some tung oil or boiled linseed oil. Just wipe it on wait a minute or two and wipe it off. Easy peasy.

Those woofers won't sound like the originals but I'm guessing it won't sound as bad as many here would have you believe. maybe a bit boomy. Save an ebay search to your account and you will get an email whenever a pair comes up.
 
I just decided this was a project I did not want to pursue.

The dream remains a pair of JBL L100T in original configuration with beautiful original finish cabinets.
 
The mids look to be correct. Remove the screws and work around them with a putty knife. What have you got to lose? Use a thin blade and, if you have to, hammer it between the frame and the baffle. It's probably just the paint holding them in place. They are not recessed.

Your 035ti tweeters are correct. Later L100Ts may have had the 035tiA like the L100T3 but there seems to be little difference other than the placement of the connectors.
