My receiver fan cooling

My Sony STR-GX10ES and STR-GX80ES (especially the 80) run warm to hot.

Bought these 5V USB powered silent fans and plug into the switched outlet. 2X AC Infinity 120mm 17db fans from Amazon. I should have gotten the 80mm fans instead, but these work great.

Now they run super cool on the lowest speed. IMG_20180218_155847679.jpg

In the PC space there are SO MANY 120, 140, and even 200-250mm 12v fans to choose from, with all sorts of airflow and noise parameters.

There are also plenty of fan controllers, ranging from "a knob attached to a resistor" to "thermally-controlled sensor-driven and programmable"

Splice it all together off a wall-wart and you can get a lot of the same effects for probably cheaper than anything sold as a dedicated audio product.

Currently, I have a Rosewill 140mm fan driven by a Zalman Fan Mate controller, in turn fed off a 9v power brick that plugs into the switched outlet of my amplifier. I've got a Thermaltake 200mm fan on order to try instead.

FYI, I have modified several Tripp-Lite rack mount UPS units to act as power conditioners for audio gear, my fan of choice for those is a Noctua PC fan which requires a little splicey splicey to work, with an added thermostatic controller so it's not cranking away when there's no load on the inverter. The stock Delta fan has slightly more airflow but sounds like a jet engine taking off, we can't have that in a listening room.

I've tried a few different ones,
Best results were with 150mm/12 volt fan, running on 6 volts.
Moves lots of air quietly.
