Finally... after several years, lots of money, disappointments, frustrations, countless hours of searching and staring at the internet... and THANKS to the help and advice from the awesome members here on AK and on Vinyl Engine, and the stellar customer service at Electric City Repair in Westminster, CO...
...I have completed my reference system:
A Pioneer PL-630 turntable purchased from Goodwill, resurrected by Electric City Repair. The stock cables replaced with Audio Sensibilities SE phono cable (fantastic, reasonably priced Canadian phono cable). The cartridge is a Shure V15III with a JICO SAS stylus with a zirconian cantilever. Headshell leads also by Audio Sensibilities.
The turntable is connected to a Sansui AU 517 integrated amplifier, which was re-capped and restored by Electric City Repair.
The speakers are ADS L880, AMAZING sounding speakers in beautiful walnut cabinets. The Synergistic Research speaker cables are raised off the floor with cable elevators.
The Pioneer turntable sits on top of an Auralex isolation platform. The Sansui amp is on sorbothane pads. The ADS speakers are 22" above the floor a top cast iron stands filled with steel shot.
The adjective that comes to mind to describe the sound that this system creates is... T R A N S C E N D E N T.
