My stereo dilemma

Hello, my name is Danny and I love vintage stereos and would like to learn more as I'll admit I'm not an expert. I'm planning to get on a stereo for my room this week and I've found two possibilities for full setups for 200 bucks. I really can't decide. One is a 70's Sansui amp and speakers. The amp is an AU-7500 and the speakers are SP-200s. The other is an old toshiba amp/pre-amp set. Amp model # SC-665. Pre-amp model # SY-665. The guy with the Toshiba is offering to sell me some Advent Legacys which he boasts as being the last of the Henry Kloss Advents. Does anyone know anything about any of these components? Both sets sound as though they've been recently tuned up. I will be running a NAD S120 turntable.

I dunno, be real hard to turn down the AU-7500, if you where to get better speakers later on the sansui will be much more worth owning.

My vote, is for the AU, 100%

I am not a fan of advents (nothing bad) and Toshiba is not known for making Stereos

Welcome to the board Daha, but be careful posting your question in multiple forums; the moderators frown sometimes.

I must be one of the "Silent minority" here who like the SP-200. The SP-200 is one of the better Sansui speakers. If they sound dull, a recap (about $20.00) will take care of that. Part's are easier to get for the AU-7500 than the Toshiba, although Toshiba made some decent sounding gear.

Im both a Sansui and Toshiba fan, in this case, I think Id go with the Toshiba setup,If for no other reason, I was never an integrated kinda guy.

The Legacys are not like the old Advents. I like them. The surrounds will surely need to be replaced if they haven't been already.

Either set would probably make you happy. You could always replace the speakers down the road.

This is AK, and there is no dilemma. The correct answer is to buy both, then hit all the garage sales and buy as much gear as your wife will tolerate. Hide the rest, and if she finds it act like you've had it for years.

SP-200 speakers are very nice sounding speakers if they are working correct. 40 year old caps might have to be changed out though.

So I ended up with the Toshiba/Advent setup after the Sui fell through. Its alright though, Black Sabbath has never sounded so good. I think I'm having some minor problems with the NAD though. The platter doesn't seem to be laying completely flat which I wish I had noticed before and there's some noise which I think may be a grounding issue as it gets louder when I touch the tone arm, though it looks pretty well grounded. Any advice guys?
